Fuse panels are very safe if maintained with correct sized breakers for the wire size.
If you are comfortable utilizing a electrical service supplying your home that is pre 1970, at least call us to have it inspected and to verify the correct size fuses are installed.

Apparently , there is a big push by insurance companies to get rid of fuse panels within residences. I have had 2 calls in the last month asking about a service change as the homeowner has been given notice by their insurance company to upgrade, or else coverage will be discontinued 60 days after the notice was given.
I did a quick search and did find that many major insurance companies out there will not insure residences with these type of panels. Coverage is still available through some others for higher rates.
Regardless of homeowner insurance, if you have a panel within your home looking like the one in the picture, it is likely over 50 years old.
