The Daniel Island Canopy Reserve is in its final stretch, and this week delivered one of the more memorable moments of the entire project.

A 1,300-pound pizza oven was craned over the roofline and set into place in the outdoor kitchen — there was no other practical way to get it there, and watching it hang against the sky was a reminder that even the finishing touches on a home like this take real coordination.

On the interior, wallpaper installation began this week, and paired with the decorative lighting now going in, the house finally reads the way we pictured it on paper. Plaster work continued alongside deep cleaning of tile, glass, and cabinetry, and the elevator is now fully operational.

Outside, the driveway has been poured and the infinity pool has been filled — the marsh view now framed by water on two levels instead of one.

A home like this comes together through a long list of small steps and each one gets us closer to the finish.

Some homes ask more of you than others. On Sullivan’s Island, that’s by design — the island stayed public land for nearly 300 years, and even now, no high-rises, no hotels, just generations of the same families returning to the same porches summer after summer.

This home sits along the Cove side of the island, where the marsh runs to the dock and the tide sets the schedule more than any clock does. Renovating it meant asking one question at every turn: will this hold up to how a family actually lives here, year after year?

A home like this outlives the renovation. It gets passed down, patched up, lived in hard. That’s the job — build something worth inheriting.

From the street, a finished coastal home looks the same as any other. What actually determines whether it lasts is never on the outside.

On this current Isle of Palms build, steel columns are carrying the structural load through the frame, metal strapping ties the roof system down for wind resistance, and fire-rated foam is sealing every void before the plywood ever goes on. None of it will be visible once the walls close in — and all of it is the difference between a home that looks finished and a home that’s built to last.

This home on Sullivan’s Island is a good example of how we think about coastal home building and home management in Charleston—from the first day on site to long after completion.

We built this custom home with the Lowcountry environment in mind—
knowing it would face salt, air, humidity, and whatever the season brings.

But what makes it work just as well now…
is how it’s cared for.

This home is still under our watch Nautilus Home Management | Charleston SC, and the homeowner opted into our hurricane preparation program—
Which really just means we stay ahead of things, instead of reacting later.

Because the reality is, most issues we see during storms aren’t major mistakes, they’re small things that get missed over time.

So here, that looks like:
• Walking the property and securing anything that could shift in high winds
• Making sure drainage is doing what is supposed to do
• Keeping an eye on seals, doors and windows before they’re tested
• Managing humidity inside, especially when the home sits empty
• And after any storm, completing a full post-storm home inspection

Nothing complicated.
