Yes I know it’s called a “GFCI” but GFI is easier to say 😂

Another day, another new construction surprise… ⚡🏠

This home is worth well over $1M, and we’ve been called out here 9+ times for different electrical issues. The scary part? A lot of these problems are hidden behind the walls, inside boxes, or buried in shortcuts you’d never know about until something stops working — or worse.

Today we found a GFCI outlet that had been wired wrong on purpose because the wire feeding the next outlet on the circuit was bad. Instead of fixing the problem the right way, someone chose the shortcut. That means the outlets downstream weren’t protected the way they should’ve been. 🚩

New construction doesn’t always mean “done right.” Homes are going up fast, and sometimes quality gets sacrificed for speed.

That’s why it pays to have a licensed electrician inspect, troubleshoot, and correct these issues before they become bigger safety problems. ✅

🔥 Too many devices on one strip can cause overheating, tripped breakers, or even fires.

🔌 So how do surge protectors actually work?

A surge protector helps defend your devices from sudden voltage spikes (like lightning ⚡ or power grid surges).
It redirects excess electricity away from your electronics 💻📺

BUT — they’re not magic. Over time, they wear out and lose protection.

✅ SAFE PRACTICE:
✔️ Plug high-power appliances (space heaters, microwaves, air fryers) directly into wall outlets
✔️ Use surge protectors for electronics like TVs, computers, and routers
✔️ Don’t daisy-chain power strips
✔️ Replace surge protectors every few years
✔️ Look for UL-listed protection ✔️
