Midstory management and why it’s so necessary for even aged hardwood forests!

We’re cutting 8” diameter trees and less to thin out shade tolerant, poorly formed, and undesirable tree species with the hopes to promote more desirable ones like oak. Thanks to Virginia Department of Forestry ( ) and their Hardwood Initiative Program, this landowner will earn incentives for this necessary work to promote a healthier forest.
