Not every roof should be an insurance claim.

Lately, we're seeing more and more salespeople throw claims at the wall and hope something sticks. Is there sometimes storm damage? Absolutely. But some of these old hail claims are a stretch, and even insurance companies like State Farm are pushing back harder than ever.

The problem is when homeowners get caught in the middle. A denied claim can leave you frustrated, waste your time, and potentially raise red flags on your insurance history.

Before filing a claim, have a reputable roofer inspect the roof first. An honest assessment can save you a lot of headaches and help you understand whether you actually have a legitimate claim or if you're simply being sold one.

Not every roof needs a claim. Not every ding is hail damage. Get the facts before rolling the dice.

ot a letter from your insurance company saying your roof needs to be replaced due to age or damage?

Before spending thousands of dollars, consider getting a professional roof inspection. A qualified roofer can provide photos and a written report showing the actual condition of your roof.

We've seen roofs flagged for replacement that still had life left in them, and we've seen others where damage wasn't properly documented.

A second opinion could save you money and help you make an informed decision.

At the end of the day, the most important thing isnโ€™t always the flashy โ€œ50 year warrantyโ€ or all the sales buzzwords. A lot of homeowners end up paying significantly more just because of the warranty pitch. The reality is, most roofing issues, if they happen, usually show themselves early on, not 30 or 40 years later.

What matters most is choosing a contractor you genuinely trust. Someone who communicates, stands behind their work, answers the phone, and has a good reputation in the community. If you feel comfortable and confident in the contractor youโ€™re hiring, that will outweigh any piece of paper warranty in most cases.

Insurance companies donโ€™t always get it right the first time. Just because part of your roof was denied, partially approved, or you were told youโ€™d have to pay out of pocket doesnโ€™t mean the fight is over. There could be missing line items, code upgrades, discontinued shingles, ventilation requirements, or other items the insurance company overlooked. We see it all the time. Before you spend thousands out of pocket, make sure everything was properly reviewed. A lot of homeowners are surprised what can still be approved once the right documentation and estimates are submitted.

A roofing contractor should always do three important things during an appointment. First, they should physically get on the roof and perform a real inspection instead of just looking from the ground. This allows them to properly check for damaged shingles, flashing issues, ventilation problems, soft decking, and any signs of leaks or storm damage. Second, they should take clear photos while they are up there and show them to the homeowner so you can actually see the condition of your roof for yourself and understand exactly what they found. Third, they should provide the estimate while they are there whenever possible, so you can ask questions, go over options, and make an informed decision without waiting days just to get basic pricing or information.

Ask the salesmen/or saleswomen if they make a commission. 90% should be on a commission structure. If they say NO.. that's a red Flag โŒ๐Ÿšฉits a simple question for a simple answer.
