🏆 We’re excited to share that Canyon Contracting, Inc. took home the STEP Platinum Award at the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Metro Washington Safety Awards Luncheon at Lakewood Country Club this Wednesday! 🎉 Not only did we earn the STEP Platinum recognition, but we also received the Chapter Safety Award (two years in a row), a true testament to our commitment to safety excellence in every project we undertake.

A big shoutout to our safety leaders, Safety Director, Sean Regan and Safety Engineer, Joel Cortez, for their hard work and dedication to keeping our team and jobsites safe every day. Safety is our top priority, and this achievement highlights the proactive safety culture we’re proud to foster at Canyon Contracting.

🎃Halloween was a hit here at Canyon Contracting! 👻

Our 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off, Pumpkin Carving, and Costume Contest brought out the best flavors and creativity. The costumes and food were top-notch, but special shoutout to our birthday boy and Director of Precon, Jimmy Carpenter, for taking home the Best Chili trophy for the second year in a row! 🏆🌶️ Way to go, Jimmy! Another shout out to Welder Helper, Stephen Troop with the Best Pumpkin and Director of Field Operations, Mike Messink AKA Guy Fieri for best costume. Here’s to more spooky celebrations and friendly competition next year!

🏆 We’re thrilled to see Meritus Park, home of the Flying Boxcars nominated for Best Ballpark of the Year! This was Canyon Contracting’s first stadium project, and we couldn’t be prouder of our team’s hard work and dedication in bringing it to life.

🏆 The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) recently announced its 2024 Postseason Awards. The Maryland Stadium Authority (MSA) is extremely pleased that Meritus Park, an MSA project, was honored as Ballpark of the Year. The award is given to the ALPB venue exemplifying the values of customer service, cleanliness, and overall hospitality and ambience. The MSA collaborated with project stakeholders and partners throughout the design and construction process and delivered an innovative multi-use facility that compliments historic Hagerstown, incorporates the cultural trail, and further elevates Maryland as a sports and entertainment destination. Ballpark of the Year - Meritus Park, Hagerstown Flying Boxcars

The Hagerstown Flying Boxcars teamed with Meritus Health to open Meritus Park, the newest ballpark in the Atlantic League. Meritus Park is utilized year-round, having already hosted several key events, including a Joe Nichols concert, corporate events and a welcome back party for Hagerstown’s Olympic medalist, Aaron Brooks. Later this year, the park is set to be used for community events including “Boxtoberfest” and a Halloween trick-or-treat event.

The park boasts state of the art electronic equipment, a Daktronics video board and a fan favorite light up model of a Flying Boxcar in right field while drawing attention to Meritus Health community healthcare and wellness services.

“Meritus Park, which opened its doors in May, serves as a model for minor league baseball. The park boasts a 360 degree concourse and two outfield bar areas that make it perfect for baseball and non-baseball events. There is no bad seat in the house, as you will always find yourself close to the action and amenities,” said Boxcars principal owner Blackie Bowen.

🎓🚧 Our team had a fantastic time on Tuesday attending the Construction Industry Career Fair at Virginia Tech's Myers-Lawson School of Construction! It was a great opportunity to meet some bright, motivated students and introduce them to the world of concrete construction. We're excited about the potential interns we met for our 2025 summer program and can't wait to continue building the future with the next generation of industry leaders. 💪

This September marked the 23rd annual Canyon Contracting and Keller Brothers Pig Roast! As last year’s event faced the challenges of Tropical Storm Ophelia, this year we couldn't have asked for better weather. While the skies were clearer this time around, the memories of last year's rain-soaked celebration only added to the anticipation for 2024. The storm may have tested us, but it couldn’t stop us. This year, we gathered under clear skies, our spirits higher than ever, ready to embrace the tradition that has become a cornerstone for our companies, families, and community.

We look forward to many more years of this cherished tradition. Here’s to the 23rd year of fantastic food, unbeatable camaraderie, and the unwavering spirit of Canyon Contracting and Keller Brothers. We’re proud to support such a great cause benefiting the ACE Mentor Program, which inspires high school students to pursue careers in architecture, construction, and engineering, as well as the Inova Health Foundation.
