Arizona Trooper Stops Pickup Hauling 14,900 Pounds of Dirt Near ASU; No CDL, No Med Card, No Trailer Brakes; Only the Pickup Itself Could Stop the Load
TEMPE, ARIZONA — An Arizona Highway Patrol commercial vehicle enforcement trooper stopped a pickup truck hauling a fully loaded dirt and debris trailer near the Arizona State University campus on AZ-202 on June 26, 2026, and found the driver had no CDL, no USDOT medical card, and zero working trailer brakes — leaving only the pickup itself to stop nearly 15,000 pounds of loaded trailer.
According to AZDPS, none of the trailer brakes were operational, exposed hubcaps and a missing emergency brake cable were among additional violations found during the inspection. The driver was cited and the vehicle was placed out of service.
"No CDL = No commercial driving," AZDPS said.
