150+ YEARS OLD. COMPLETELY BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE. 🏚️➡️🔥
Some projects are more than just construction — they’re about preserving history while creating something that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
This 150+ year-old barn was standing on its original foundation beams with very little original lumber remaining and only a small portion of the tin roof still intact. We took on the challenge of restoring it from the ground up while keeping the character and history that made this barn special.
We stripped the remaining lumber and tin, poured new foundations, and installed a stamped, stained, and sealed concrete slab before rebuilding the structure from the ground up.
Inside, this barn features:
🔨 Two levels of custom-built space
💡 Custom wagon wheel chandeliers
🍻 Custom-built bar and bartop with a brick face
🪵 Exposed structural beams throughout
⚙️ Custom handrails with rebar spindles
🌲 Board-and-batten interior walls made from rough-cut lumber
🏚️ Ceilings crafted from the barn’s original 150-year-old tin roofing
The result is a clean, modern rustic design that still pays tribute to the barn’s original character.
Outside, we added a large acid-stained, stamped, and sealed round staircase leading down to a spacious stamped and sealed patio — creating the perfect area for after-parties, outdoor gatherings, and plenty of memories to come.
Where the original concrete foundation remained exposed, we added stone veneer to tie everything together with the barn’s white and black exterior finish.
From a structure that had seen more than 150 years of weather, time, and wear to a completely transformed gathering space — this barn has a whole new life.
At Johnson & Son General Contracting, we don’t just build new. We can restore, rebuild, and bring old structures back to life.
Another piece of East Tennessee history preserved for the next generation. 🇺🇸
