Next phase here we come!

Hope everyone is having a great start to their Tuesday morning already! Wanted to share a project that while not the biggest, I could not be more excited to see this one come into fruition! Kohut and Son Landscaping at it again with this revamp of an already gorgeous property that was done many years ago. Photos attached on the spaces current conditions so you can see what we have proposed.

A new Belgian block landing to house the beautiful custom moon gate and “living wall” fastigiate boxwood planting to match the current walls further up the driveway. A matching arbor now sits a top a new firewood storage box with the wall getting new lighting, planters, and even lattice work above! A deer resistant perennial bed now encompasses one side of the patio to gently soften the view while seeing the colors come to life. Firepit cap to be repurposed as it’s too sexy to just throw away!

Stay tuned for this one as it is for sure to be a show stopper!

Welcome to Paperbark Design Studio’s once a month post lol!

Spring is absolutely in full force and focus is on keeping production moving along while not taking away the necessary time needed on each project to ensure that personal touch. I will try and post more projects especially with so many getting built or planted this season!

When and I’s client shifts focus to a larger pavilion and entertainment space, so do we! Here is the approved design which has started to take its next steps in order to be constructed. With a large wood burning fireplace that not only is gorgeous to look at but also provides some screening from the house next door, this space is easily going to be used the most by this family. The new outdoor kitchen area is also covered while sporting another bar area to keep the cook some company but still have views from all over.

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

As Paperbark Design Studio is only under two years old, more and more projects have begun installation and each one gets me more and more excited each time.

Mark at and I designed this stairway entry to give this home in Upper Montclair the curb appeal it deserves! While using natural stone for the stairs and the veneer, we were able to give these stairs timeless character, while also bringing out some of the beige from the stone to tie into the home. The newly added sitting wall gives a spot to tie your shoes or wait for the kiddos who say they are ready…when they aren’t!

I will try and post more work as the spring goes on but just extremely thankful for the work I have been fortunate to be a part of, and my Amazon contractor network as well.

Happy Monday indeed everyone! Had to make an excuse to be outside on this beautiful day. Karl, head of security, also is enjoying the change of scenery. This kind of weather really gets the spring inch going!

Now that the flu has subsided in my home/office, I can finally Introduce our latest design reveal in Morris County, New Jersey with Michael at 🔥⚒️

The heart of this hillside transformation is a custom Alpine pavilion by which gives us all the room and all the feels we are after!

Beneath the structure, a fully integrated outdoor kitchen pairs with custom fireboxes, a dedicated AV and storage room, and a double-sided open wood-burning stone fireplace that serves as the architectural centerpiece of the entire space. An oversized bar table with seating on both sides ensures there’s always a place to gather, connect, and watch the game (wait until you see the projector!)

Just beyond the pavilion, a sunset patio was intentionally positioned to capture Morris County’s picturesque evening skies — one of the homeowners’ biggest priorities. The layout transitions seamlessly from high-energy entertaining to relaxed evenings by the fire, designed for comfort in every season.

A lakeside outdoor living concept designed for entertaining—bluestone patio and slab stairs, a stone veneer fireplace with integrated fireboxes, bar seating by the fire, and three bold pillars to anchor the long approach and views.

Big thanks for another collaboration we’re excited to bring to life. This is exactly the kind of work we love doing.

From paper…to pixels…to planted reality.

This Fairy Garden in Mountain Lakes, NJ started as a thoughtfully layered planting plan, evolved into a highly detailed 3D render, and now lives on site exactly as imagined. That’s always the goal for us—designs that don’t just look good on screen, but translate seamlessly into real spaces people can walk through, sit in, and feel.

Huge credit to John Kohut and the team for executing this with such care and craftsmanship. When design (especially with John’s creativity) and installation are aligned, the result speaks for itself.

CLIENT APPROVED ✔️

This design is officially approved and and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s next.

The existing brick terrace was a challenge — so we embraced it. By opening the space and building around it, we added a pergola, outdoor kitchen, bar area, and a new paver patio that connects the entire backyard to the pool and entertainment space.

Can’t wait to bring this one to life.
