I shared all of my clay harvesting adventures with my dad. Did he think I was being silly? Probably. Did he wonder what was wrong with me? Most likely. Did he still encourage me by telling where there was some lighter colored clay on his property? Most definitely. Clearly he is an enabler and supports my nonsense. 🤣 Excited to see how this turns out. It seems to be much thicker and had WAY fewer rocks in it.

Some days you start out just planting a few plants and suddenly you're elbow deep in clay slurry. 🤣 My latest laundry procrastination adventure is harvesting wild clay. I always loved playing in the clay as a kid, but there were too many rocks to really do anything with it. As I was digging holes for my plants I hit clay. Definitely not unusual and very frustrating to my gardening heart, but this time it clicked in my head that I am an adult with resources and access to the interwebs with all the information ever. So down the rabbit hole I went! I will say the pillowcase method is not for me. I've got ideas on streamlining this process and a list of supplies I'll need to do it. The block is what I have dried out after making the slurry and the last picture of the tote is what remains to be dried. And that's just from four plant holes! Bonus I backfilled the plant holes with a compost and cow manure mixture and top soil, so hopefully my plants will fair better. Spot the volunteer pumpkin plants in the background from last year's pumpkins!
