Some spaces take years to find their purpose. This one waited about a hundred.
Friends of ours spent months renovating a century-old building in downtown Morganton with their own hands — no architect, no contractor, just patience and good instincts. On opening weekend, neighbors filled the courtyard and didn’t want to leave. The string lights, the shade sails, the old brick — all of it exactly right.
This is what adaptive reuse looks like when it’s done with love instead of a pro forma. The building finally knows what it wanted to be.
Honestly my only concern is that we love it so much they’re going to get tired of seeing us.
— already becoming the kind of place a town needs.
