The Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA) is a trade association serving the roofing industry of the Western United States. Founded in 1974, WSRCA also hosts the annual Western Roofing Expo. The WSRCA supports the roofing industry and its members by providing access to trade publications, legal and technical advice and other services. Many of the roofing industry's largest manufacturers and suppliers are currently members.

It may seem that a job can be performed more efficiently without spending the time to protect against falls. However, falls remain one of the top causes of fatalities in construction. Workers have fallen off edges of every description, especially floors and roofs, and through openings in floors, roofs, and walls. WEBINAR - Strategies to Promote Recovery in Workplaces and Worksites - TUESDAY 10/13/26 @ 10AM PST

Over 23 million Americans live in recovery, and 70% of individuals with substance use disorder are of working age and employed in the US workforce. Reducing stigma and improving education on substance use prevention and recovery can help workers and families access needed support.

Learning Objectives:

Recognize addiction as a treatable chronic health condition that affects every demographic and nearly every workplace.

Use the No Shame Pledge to reduce stigma and break down barriers to workplace care and support.

Explore strategies that support recovery in workplaces, including multiple pathways to recovery and recovery allyship.

• Paul Reed - Roofers in Recovery

Paul Reed is Executive Vice President of The HCR Group. Paul serves as a Board member of the WSRCA and as the Chairperson for the Safety & Health Committee. Paul is a nationally recognized advocate for workplace mental health. He is a regular speaker at the Western Roofing Exposition. Paul is a passionate champion and educates contractors and crew members on workplace addiction and mental health support. Paul and his wife Kim co-founded the nonprofit Roofers in Recovery in 2017.

Cal Beyer, CWP is Sr. Director of SAFE Workplaces for national nonprofit SAFE Project (Stop the Addiction Fatality Epidemic). A 35-year safety and risk management professional dedicated to construction since 1996, Cal helps employers address addiction, reduce stigma, and support substance use prevention, harm reduction, and recovery in the workplace.

OSHA is currently issuing $15,000–$20,000 citations nationwide for silica dust exposure during roofing tear-offs and cutting operations. Silica is released when cutting tile, grinding ridge pieces, snapping concrete tile, or tearing off built-up roofing. Because these tasks generate airborne dust, roofing crews must follow Table 1–compliant methods that actually work on steep-slope and low-slope roofs. Key exposure points include:

WESTERN STATES ANNOUNCES 2026-2027 BOARD AND COMMITTEE LEADERSHIP

NEW PRESIDENT RON LLOYD OF KOKUA ROOFING TO LEAD ASSOCIATION FOR 2026–2027

Western States Roofing Contractors Association is pleased to announce its 2026–2027 Board of Directors and committee leadership, with Ron Lloyd of Kokua Roofing in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, serving as the association’s new President.

Lloyd assumes the presidency following the term of Stan Robinson of Pacific West Roofing in Hubbard, Oregon, who will continue to serve the association as Immediate Former President. Stephanie Baird of Oregon Roofing Company in Portland, Oregon, will serve as Senior Vice President.

Joining Lloyd, Baird and Robinson on the Executive Committee are Vice Presidents Brian Butler of Wayne’s Roofing Inc. in Sumner, Washington; Marcus Clinco of CI Services Inc. in Anaheim, California; Scott Riopelle of Interstate Roofing in Denver, Colorado; and Wayne Sorensen of Top Line Roofing Inc. in San Marcos, California.

“The strength of Western States has always come from the members who choose to get involved,” said Joel Viera, Executive Director of Western States Roofing Contractors Association. “This leadership group brings an enormous amount of knowledge and perspective to the table. We’re excited about what they’ll accomplish together over the coming year.”
