I do a lot of projects that are covered by strict NDA’s. Hence, they are never photographed or published.
While purging some files this weekend, I found these concept sketches from a 2001 project in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The VE pool was finished in custom blend of dark green Sicis glass tile mosaics.
Inside the pool was an inverted vanishing edge “negative space” (this was years before the ground zero memorial). The negative space was inset with a frosted sheet of acrylic that was back lit with LED’s.
Situated on a hillside, the house sat 50 feet above the pool area. At night the darkened pool was a black space on the hillside below. The large square of lit acrylic appeared to be floating in space.
Adding to the enjoyment, was the RGB LED’s could “dance” to the music playing in the house or controlled by a fiber optic switch cast into the pool deck. Yes, an iPod was the music source!
Sadly, some of our best work is only recorded in concept drawings, sketches & shop drawings.
