Central Catholic: "Rooms with a new view";
Visions of Sisters Mary Finbar, Pauline, Aiden, Monica, Marie Moreau and even Sister Claude have appeared as I walked thru the halls of CC. Rebuilding the buildings where I spent 10 years has been an interesting experience. Pete Boudreaux and Amanda Talbot have been a pleasure to work with for this 1968 graduate.
What are we doing you ask?
Here are progress photos of our ongoing renovation project that is replacing the ancient, uninsulated, water leaking, and plain ugly aluminum window walls on all of the exterior walls of the original buildings built in the late 50'S. After Hurricane Francine partially flooded and blew through the buildings, we replaced all of the old floor tile last summer. With insurance proceeds, this summer, the window wall replacement started the day that school ended in May.
Foret Construction Group is the contractor for the work and they are working hard to have all of the new interior wall surfaces ready for students in early August. Work will continue on the new plaster exterior finish after hours to keep classroom disruption to a minimum.
A second project that is replacing the roof on the two-story classroom building is well underway and will be finished soon.
Students and teachers will be pleased with the new views, the soundproofing, and the temperature comfort that they will enjoy now that there is a real insulated wall between the classrooms and the heat and humidity outside.
Finally, as I sat in Sister Claude's biology class in 1966 watching Holy Cross Church being built, I dreamed of my future as an architect. Fifty years later these projects mean I have come full circle. We should all be so lucky.
