🔥 When It Comes to EV Charging, “If It Fits, It Ships” Does NOT Apply.

We’ve come across too many EV charging receptacles that look like the one pictured here: overheated, melted, and burned because the wrong equipment was installed or the installation wasn’t done correctly.

An EV charger is one of the largest continuous electrical loads in your home. It can draw a significant amount of power for hours at a time, which means the receptacle, wiring, breaker, connections, and other equipment all need to be properly selected and installed for the application.

Just because a plug fits into a receptacle doesn’t mean that receptacle is appropriate for EV charging. Improper equipment or poor connections can generate excessive heat over time, damaging the receptacle and creating a serious fire hazard.

We recently received a call from a homeowner in Harkers Island whose Generac generator had been out of service for a couple of years after shutting down with an error code.

Our service team diagnosed the issue and found that an oil pressure sensor had failed during one of the generator’s weekly exercise cycles. The failed sensor allowed the engine oil to leak out inside the generator, causing the unit to shut itself down and go into a fault condition.

After identifying the problem, we replaced the failed oil pressure sensor, cleaned up the unit, and got everything back in working order. Since the generator had been sitting out of service, we also performed its annual maintenance and a complete inspection, along with installing a new starting battery.

The generator is now back up and running, exercising properly, and ready to provide backup power when the next outage comes. ⚡
