We are continuing through the decades to celebrate our 100-Year Anniversary with a spotlight on the 2010s!

Shook’s growth continued with the opening of new offices in three different states. Growing demand for our water and wastewater expertise prompted us to open our Raleigh, North Carolina, office in 2012. Shook completed water and wastewater treatment plants in Gastonia, New Bern, and High Point, North Carolina.

Work across Ohio continued, including the Dayton Public Schools construction program and the St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center in Youngstown, which won a Build Ohio Award. We also worked on the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District’s Southerly Plant.

Our Columbus, Ohio, office opened in 2018 with work on the city’s Dublin Road Water Treatment Plant. Shook also undertook the S88 clarification and the S89 disinfection projects at Southerly Wastewater Treatment Plant.

In 2019, we launched our Richmond, Indiana, location to support our decade-long relationship with Reid Health, building several hospitals and medical office buildings throughout the region.

We are in the home stretch of our 100 Acts of Service for 100 Years of Service initiative, continuing to give back to the communities we serve.

For Acts 84-91, our teams have been making an impact across our regions. Team members installed windows on a community homebuilding project, helped build a playground feature at a local elementary school, organized toys to help families in need, supported athletes with disabilities as they enjoyed a day on the baseball field, and so much more.

Breaking ground on growth in Kokomo! 🚧

We were proud to join Haynes International, Inc, community leaders, and project partners for the groundbreaking of Haynes' new vacuum induction melting facility and SMS rotary forge in Kokomo, Indiana.

This project will help Haynes expand its production of high-performance alloys used in aerospace, industrial gas turbines, and other applications.

We're honored to help deliver a project that supports innovation, manufacturing excellence, and long-term economic growth in the communities we serve.

Congratulations to everyone involved as work begins on this exciting project.

🏗️✨ A special moment for Tipp City Schools

We were thrilled to celebrate with Tipp City Schools teachers, students, administrators, and staff at the topping-out ceremony for the district’s new PK-8 School.

In the days leading up to the ceremony, students and staff signed the ceremonial beam that was placed within the structure, leaving their mark on a building that will serve the community for generations to come.

Shook is serving as construction manager for the 218,944-square-foot project, which will provide a modern learning environment for about 1,800 students.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the ceremony and helped make the day so memorable. We’re grateful to partner with Tipp City Schools, Garmann Miller, and the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission to bring this transformational project to life.

Over the past few months, we welcomed our Shook teams and their families to some fun at picnics across all four regions of the company.

These gatherings provided wonderful opportunities to connect, celebrate, and enjoy time together away from the jobsite and office.

A Great Build Starts Long Before the Shovel Hits the Ground 🏗️🏗️

That’s a concept that Matt Huelsman knows well. As Director of Preconstruction at Shook, Matt plays a pivotal role before construction even begins.

He leads budgeting, estimating, planning, and early problem-solving with one goal in mind: setting each client up for long-term success.

Matt knows that every client is unique, which means every project requires a tailored approach. He focuses on understanding what matters most to each client and shaping solutions around those priorities.

“No two clients are the same, which means no two projects are either. Our job is to listen closely, learn what’s most important to them, and build a plan that sets them up for success.”

He also emphasizes that preconstruction success requires more than technical expertise. Strong communication, collaboration, and early problem-solving are just as important as math and attention to detail.

Matt and the preconstruction team work to identify challenges early, coordinate teams effectively, and create solutions that benefit everyone involved.

We’ve reached the turn of the 21st century on our journey that spotlights Shook’s 100-year history.

The new millennium brought several new opportunities for Shook — we began water and wastewater work in North Carolina and surrounding states, and opened our Kokomo, Indiana, office to support industrial work.

Ohio is home, and we continued to deliver substantial projects in the Buckeye State, like the Atrium Medical Center in Middletown and work with clients such as AT&T, Verizon, Bridgestone, Macy’s, PolyOne, and Case Western Reserve University.
