Today our crew transformed this existing concrete floor from a worn, failing surface into a clean, durable full-flake flooring system.

We started by mechanically grinding the existing surface to remove the previous coating and properly profile the concrete. After preparation, we repaired the cracks and imperfections before installing the new coating system.

Today we transformed this garage floor that had an older epoxy coating that was already faded and beginning to delaminate.

As always, the most important part of a professional coating system is the preparation.

We started by mechanically grinding the entire floor to remove the failing coating and create the proper concrete profile for our new system.

Once the surface was completely prepared, we addressed the necessary repairs and cleaned the floor thoroughly before moving into the coating process.

For this project, the customer selected our 1/4-inch Orbit flake blend, which gives the floor a clean, modern appearance while also helping hide dirt and everyday wear.

After applying the base coat, we broadcast the flakes to full rejection to create complete and consistent coverage across the entire floor.

Once everything was ready, we scraped and cleaned the surface and applied the protective top coat to seal the system and give the floor its finished appearance.

The difference from the old faded and peeling epoxy to the finished floor is huge.

Does an old, cracked pool deck have to be torn out and replaced? 👀

Not always.

This pool deck had years of wear, discoloration, and cracking—but the existing concrete gave us an opportunity to completely change the surface without tearing out the entire deck.

In this video, I walk you through the process we used to prepare the existing concrete, address the problem areas, and install a knockdown texture concrete overlay system.

One thing I always explain to homeowners: an overlay can completely transform the surface, but it is not a structural or foundation repair. Proper preparation and choosing the right system for the existing concrete are extremely important.

A lot of homeowners see an older pool deck like this—with discoloration, cracks and years of wear—and automatically think the concrete needs to be torn out and replaced.

That isn’t always the case.

When the existing concrete is a suitable candidate, we can properly prepare the surface, address the existing cracks, and install a decorative concrete overlay system directly over the existing slab.

That’s exactly what we did here.

The goal wasn’t just to change the color. We created a fresh textured surface designed for an outdoor pool environment while completely changing the appearance of the backyard.
