What a weekend!! ❤️
For the fourth year, JGS Construction had the honor of organizing the ACLU of Alabama Day of Service renovation project — bringing volunteers together to serve civil rights foot soldier Annie Pearl Avery (82).
Ms. Avery stood for justice during the historic events surrounding the Edmund Pettus Bridge and is recognized today as one of the oldest surviving foot soldiers from that pivotal moment in the American civil rights movement.
With Ms. Avery now wheelchair bound after a spinal injury, our goal was simple: make her home safer, easier to navigate, and a little more beautiful.
In just one day, volunteers worked tirelessly to:
• Repair and reinforce her wheelchair ramp
• Install fresh sod so she no longer has to navigate sand in her yard
• Clean and reorganize storage and garage areas
• Trim trees, remove debris, and tackle major landscaping improvements
The energy was incredible. Volunteers showed up ready to work, and together we were able to make a meaningful impact.
Thank you to our amazing partners who helped us with this project: King and Rudolph Construction + Phase 2 Construction + Gray Technology Solutions.
Projects like this are truly a labor of love for our team, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who gave their time and effort to honor Ms. Avery and her incredible legacy.
