Big news out of Highland Park, New Jersey! 📢

The Borough recently announced that South Third Avenue Public Plaza, now known as "Borough Square," was awarded a $1.5 million grant from the Middlesex County Open Space, Recreation, and Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust Fund. 💰 The funding will support the creation of a permanent, pedestrian-oriented community space designed for events, cultural programming, informal recreation, and the future home of the Highland Park Farmers Market. 👩‍🌾

Arterial is leading the redesign of Borough Square, which will include accessible gathering areas, landscaping, seating, shade elements, and ADA-compliant paths. With additional public space near Raritan Avenue having been part of the community conversation for more than 20 years, this project represents an exciting step toward bringing that long-standing vision to life. ✨

The Pillars, you're a beaut in any light. 🌚

Arterial's James Ribaudo recently stopped by The Pillars by Audible and hit us with a reminder that every public space, be it a park, plaza, sidewalk, or pedestrian street, has two lives. One by day and one by night. 🌛

Although the plaza was empty, with the moveable tables and chairs chained up for the evening, it's still goes to show that great keeps both lives in mind when designing a space.

They don't call it the Garden State for nothing! 👩‍🌾 Today we're planting the seeds of a new series, originally launched earlier this year by Arterial Junior Urban Designer Nicole Vuono! 🌱

"Species Spotlight" will introduce you to a variety of plants that are not only native to New Jersey, but that you might also find incorporated into some of our projects across the State!

Let's get to know 'Coreopsis,' with its gorgeous golden hue that may look like a w**d to some, but is actually a beautiful native plant that thrives in sunny areas and provides an important food source for pollinators! 🐝🌻

Last Friday, Arterial joined Plainsboro NJ Mayor Ed Yates, Township Committee members, representatives from the 14th Legislative District, and local dignitaries for the ribbon cutting of the newly renovated Market Square Park! ✂️

Designed by Arterial, the park’s transformation includes a re-positioned perimeter walkway, a flexible plaza adjacent to the library, a new entry wall with place branding, expanded lawn panels for events, continental crosswalks for improved visibility and pedestrian safety, as well as new benches, lounge seating, and other furnishings. 🌳

The $250,000 state grant that helped fund the improvements was secured through the advocacy of Senator Linda Greenstein, Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo, and Assemblywoman Tennille McCoy. Following the ceremony, guests celebrated with more than an hour of music from the Philadelphia Jazz Orchestra, who provided the soundtrack to a breathtaking summer evening in the new and improved park. 🎷

Arterial Junior Urban Designer Nicole Vuono recently visited Colombia and came back with some inspiration from Zipaquirá Principal Park in Zipaquirá! 🇨🇴 Centrally located in the heart of the city, the plaza is surrounded by shops, restaurants, a cathedral, and several government buildings, including City Hall. 🏛️

Naturally, we love the gorgeous seating options and native plantings, but it’s hard not to be inspired by the beautiful architecture! 🧡

Come on down to Eatontown where Monmouth Mall's transformation into Monmouth Square continues... 🪄

As the on this Kushner-led project, Arterial is designing all of the public space including a 2-acre park, a "Main Street" pedestrian retail experience, and bicycle/pedestrian circulation. 🚲 Additionally, we will be designing private amenities including the clubhouse pool, courtyards, and other residential spaces.

Planting with purpose! Tree planting is well underway at The Park.NJ in Berkeley Heights! 🌳

Working with The Connell Company, Arterial developed a landscape master plan to transform the traditional 180-acre office park into a vibrant, mixed-use destination, being described as New Jersey’s first “work resort.” 🏢 The plan emphasizes and through a network of trails, renovated streets, and open spaces that tie the campus together. 🌳 New amenities include collaborative outdoor co-work areas, parks, flexible fields, a fitness court, basketball courts, and a playground, all designed to create a thriving environment where residents, visitors, and workers can connect, play, and enjoy the outdoors.

Quimby Street is about to have its moment as it moves one step closer to a major transformation in the Town of Westfield, New Jersey. ✨

Last year, Arterial was selected to lead the redesign of Quimby Street, a project that will transform the corridor into a permanent, one-way, flexible festival street and enhance both the streetscape and overall aesthetics.

During last week’s Town Council Presentation, Arterial's James Ribaudo shared our concept designs with the community and outlined plans for a more pedestrian-focused experience that will feature electronic bollards for easy street openings and closures, expanded brick paving, and fully restored on-street parking between events. 🚸🌳

Per Westfield Mayor Jeremy Berman: “Our goal is to finalize these plans and go out to bid for construction by year end, with the project anticipated to be complete during the summer of 2027.”

The beginnings of something special. Construction on Plaza Greene is now officially underway in Fair Lawn Borough, NJ. 🪏

Designed by Minno & Wasko Architects and Planners and developed by Danbro Properties and Sterling Properties, this transit-oriented, age-restricted community will bring 145 residential units for active adults 55+, including 15% affordable and supportive housing units, along with a Sprouts Farmers Market just steps from the nearby Radburn NJ TRANSIT station. 🚉

Arterial led the design of the streetscape, public realm, and rooftop amenities, creating a walkable environment with wide sidewalks, street trees, pedestrian lighting, and integrated furnishings. 🌳 Above, residents will enjoy a rooftop courtyard featuring a series of outdoor rooms with lounge seating, grills, shaded gathering spaces, and a media wall.
