Update: We recently posted this image of wild lupine that turned out to be Lupinus polyphyllus, a West Coast species that is considered invasive in parts of the East Coast. The clue is in the leaves - our native lupine, Lupinus perennis, has 7–11 leaflets.

Apparently, mislabeling of lupines is fairly common, and they can also hybridize in the nursery trade. So let this be a learning moment for all of us: count the leaves on your lupines!

And thank you to Jessica Miller for spotting the issue. It raised awareness, and the news has already started to trickle up the supply chain!

Excited to share our completed project featuring more than 75 native perennials across 20+ native species, planted as a mix of plugs and full-sized plants. Thank you JS for gorgeous photos, our team for their hard work + .co for being an awesome partner in our work.

Poison ivy is back - and how easily it blends in the garden! This native (but very troublesome for humans) plant is popping up everywhere. Learn to identify, wear closed-toe shoes when you’re outside, and consider keeping poison ivy soap on hand just in case. And PS never throw it in the fire, inhalation can really hurt those breathing in its oil.

Say hello to class of 2026, they have graduated from grow lights and enjoying their first outing. These are mostly edible plants grown from packets (or from seeds taken from grocery fruit) this winter: tomatoes, husk tomatoes, squash, peppers, kale, borage, watermelon, basil, and some exotics for fun dragonfruit, mangoes, pomegrantes, goji berriee, lychee plus sweet allysum and coleuses for containers. Grown right here in Montclair in a small closet all winter. This was so much fun, but also ton of work keeping them alive, fighting gnats, pruning them for size. So much respect to commercial gardeners, particularly organic ones for their hard work. 🌸🌸🌸

Can you spot these invasive plants on your property? Learn to identify these so you can control the spread early on! Each of these is a very difficult invasive to get rid of chemical-free but worth the effort for a safe home.
