What started as a single email turned into a hands-on learning experience for future engineers.

When George Mason University reached out for support on their concrete canoe team, Baker co-workers stepped in to help guide students through mix design, fabrication, and real-world problem solving.

The journey was not without challenges. Students navigated batching concrete in sub-freezing temperatures, material delays that required last-minute adjustments, formwork issues, and repairs to cracked sections ahead of competition. Despite those hurdles, the team made it to the ASCE Concrete Canoe Competition at the Mid-Atlantic Student Symposium, hosted by the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

At Baker, safety is a priority we discuss daily. But Construction Safety Week gave us a chance to unite as One Baker to focus on how safety is built into the small moments, from recognizing hazards to adjusting the plan when conditions change.

Turns out a little friendly competition can do a lot of good.

Last month, our Orlando and Tampa teams hosted the Second Annual Crawfish & Clays event in Central Florida. The fundraiser brought together co-workers, partners, and industry friends for a day of crawfish, clay shooting, and camaraderie in support of the American Heart Association’s Hard Hats with Heart foundation.

With support from ABC of Central Florida and everyone who showed up ready to give back, the event raised more than $25,000 for the cause.

A special shoutout to Ben Goodin, Operations Manager in Orlando and Hard Hats with Heart board member, for helping drive this effort forward alongside an incredible team.

Big win for our Nashville team! Baker Construction is proud to bring home a 2026 AGC Build Tennessee Award of Excellence for Society Nashville in Nashville, TN.

Located in the heart of The Gulch, this 17-story mixed-use development is helping shape one of Nashville’s most vibrant neighborhoods. Baker delivered the structural concrete scope, including below-grade parking, a mixed-use podium, residential levels, and a rooftop terrace.

Building in an active live-work-play environment required detailed planning, daily coordination, and constant communication with our partners. Despite weather challenges, strict work windows, and a nearby road collapse, the team kept the project moving without compromising quality.

This recognition reflects the grit, accountability, and collaboration behind the work. We are grateful to have partnered with Yates Construction and our trade partners to bring it to life.

Some careers follow a straight path. Others take a few turns and open doors you didn’t expect. Todd Reindel’s career is a little of both.

As a finance director, Todd helps guide the financial health of our Industrial East team. But he didn’t set out to build a career in finance. He started in the field.

A graduate of Bowling Green State University, Todd found Baker the same way many co-workers do: he was recruited by a friend. He left Cleveland, OH, for Gainesville, FL, where he served as a project engineer on a major healthcare project. His resume rapidly expanded from there with such roles as lead project engineer, project controls manager, document controls manager, and master scheduler.

With each move, he found himself pulled closer to finance.
“If you look at the overlap between those roles and finance, it just made sense,” he says. “The evolution has been pretty cool.”
That willingness to step into something new was always met with the trust, resources, mentorship, and autonomy to grow.
“Baker doesn’t put up roadblocks,” Todd notes. “They’ve always provided the encouragement to learn. They will give you all the opportunity you want.”

Now, Todd brings that same mindset to his own leadership, investing in others and helping them find their path, wherever it leads.

Safety Week might be coming to a close, but the conversations will not.

Across Baker, teams took time each day to discuss this year’s theme, “Recognize. Respond. Respect.,” and what it looks like in the work we do. Those discussions were a good reminder that we have the tremendous responsibility of being our brothers’ and sisters’ keeper, not just this week, but every day.

Because at the end of the day, safety is not something we check off a list. It is how we work. Let’s carry it forward.
