This is the stage where “we’ll never fill all that space” starts sounding a little too confident. 😂

We found a few photos we hadn’t shared from our Strum build this spring, showing it go from posts in the ground to framing, trusses and steel.

These are some of our favorite photos to look back on. At the start, you’re walking between posts. Before long, you’re standing under a roof, looking around and seeing what all that planning was for.

A place to work. Equipment out of the weather. Enough room to open the truck door without apologizing to the snowblower.

Of course, once there’s extra room, somebody will find a boat on Marketplace.

We build the buildings. We cannot supervise your browsing history. 😅

What’s the first thing you’d move into this one?

A roof for the camper and a place to park the lawn chairs. That’s pretty solid Midwest planning. 😂

This one started with a sketch and a plan for a shelter that could protect a camper and double as a pavilion for family gatherings. We worked through the details with the owners and built something that looks right at home on their property.

Then they got a different camper.

A taller camper.

Because having everything stay the same height would’ve been entirely too convenient. 😅

So we came back, adjusted the entrance clearance, and got the new camper tucked in where it belonged.

Then the lights went up, the lawn chairs came out, and the shelter got to do its other job during a family wedding weekend.

Plenty of room for everyone—and a proper Midwest goodbye. You know, the one where somebody says “welp” and everyone keeps talking for another 45 minutes.

The owners emailed us photos afterward and titled the email “Small customers, Big Service!” That meant a lot to us. We’re a small business ourselves. We know these projects matter to the people paying for them, and we take that seriously.

We’re pretty pleased with how this one turned out. Seeing it full of people enjoying themselves? That’s the good stuff.

P.S. Brett’s also made some progress on our addition, and it’s looking great! Let us know if you’re still interested in seeing progress pictures. Turns out the carpenter’s own house does occasionally make it onto the schedule. 😂

Today’s construction lesson: “I thought we talked about that” is not a filing system. Apparently neither is “I thought I told you.” 😂

A customer remembered discussing floor drains for their building. The drains weren’t in the written scope or price, and we didn’t initially remember the conversation.

So we went back through the details and talked it through. Part of that conversation started coming back, and we realized we may have missed getting it into the paperwork.

Which one of us? The investigation has been closed due to insufficient coffee and more important things to do.

We’re covering the drains.

Brett and I put a lot of care into these projects. We do our best to get things right, from the first conversation through the last piece of trim. But we’re human, and doing our best doesn’t mean we’ll never miss something.

We want our customers to feel comfortable picking up the phone when something doesn’t seem right. You deserve to be heard, to get an honest answer, and to know we’ll take responsibility when a mistake is ours.

Now, back to building. The drains have already received more office attention than they ever expected.

Things are coming together on our commercial build in Eleva! Roof is on, walls are underway, and it’s starting to look like a place to get some work done.

Brett and the crew have been working hard getting this one enclosed. Wisconsin is still deciding what season it wants to be, but we’d rather not wait for it to make up its mind. 😂

Pretty happy with the progress and thankful to be trusted with this project. We’ll share more as it comes together!

10/14/2026

Apparently we’re already planning for spring. Meanwhile, I’m still saying “once things settle down” like that’s an actual date on the calendar. 😂

Between running this business, family life, and our own addition, there’s plenty going on. Somebody always needs a snack, a signature, or a skid steer. But Brett and the crew keep getting things done, and you guys keep giving us more to do. We’re pretty thankful for both.

Our spring schedule is filling up quickly, so if you’ve been talking about having us build something or tackle a project this spring, let us know soon. We want to have time to work through the details and get you on the schedule before we’re looking at summer.

You don’t need to have every detail figured out to get the conversation started. “We know we need a building, but we’re still debating how big” is something we can work with. Although if you ask Brett, there’s a decent chance he’ll vote bigger.

As always, estimates are free. If we’ve already been talking about your project and spring is still the goal, give us a holler so we can pick things back up.

And finally, as promised, here’s the video of the Owens boys helping PAW Concrete pour our addition! The concrete was finished considerably faster than I got this video posted. Thankfully, nobody hired me to pour it. 😂

Actual framing construction started today, so stay tuned for those pictures very soon. I actually get to watch this one come together start to finish and help quite a bit more, so this is SUPER EXCITING for me, and for the whole family!

Now back to our regularly scheduled construction, paperwork, and asking whose socks these are.

Between running a construction company out of our house, raising 5 kids, keeping 2 cats alive, and somehow deciding it was a good idea to start an addition on our OWN home… we've officially lost track of what free time is. 😂

Thankfully, the crew has been busy doing some actual construction while the home office operates somewhere between organized chaos and a full-blown circus. 🤣

🔨 We recently wrapped up a shed in Eau Claire, and the homeowner has already started tackling the insulation himself!

🔨 Our commercial shop project in Eleva is coming along nicely!

🔨 And because we clearly don't have enough going on, we poured concrete for our own home addition on Friday!

The Owens boys (Brett and his brother) even got in on the action helping PAW Concrete with the pour. 😂

Should we share some behind-the-scenes pictures and videos of the Owens boys pretending to know what they're doing? Drop a 😂 in the comments if you want to see them!

All jokes aside, everyone worked their tails off to get the concrete poured and keep everything moving on our addition. I'm incredibly proud of what they've accomplished and grateful to be part of such a hardworking team! ❤️

In the meantime, we're still building, still quoting, and still answering the phone. Just don't mind the screaming children in the background. 🤣

End of day 4. We only have a 2 man crew on this build and it’s going faster than anticipated. A gable end and some fascia/rake trim left. It’s going to be a very busy week with a lot of posts. Stay tuned for our commercial welding shop build next, then off to black river for a storage building before a lake Pepin garage.

Cabin updates, garage door delivery’s, and attic insulation happening this week as well!

We are also pouring concrete on our new office addition on Friday! Pretty soon we will have space for meetings by appointment, and extra storage for items we plan to stock in cold storage!

Thank you to everyone that’s followed and supported our small business, for that we are planning a giveaway in the next month.

We haven't gotten to use our 2026 Mondovi area discount as much as we would have hopped to be able to, so we are working up another way to give back to the community! Once we have that figured out we will update on that as well! Stay tuned😊

Thanks for the help KIL Construction !

Here are some more recent, long awaited photos of our cabin project. 🏠

This one is taking shape so nicely, and we cannot wait to see the finished product!

We think the blue siding with the white trim and the textured black metal roof look really sharp.

What do you think? 👀
