There's a moment after a project wraps when vou iust stand back and take it in. The light hits the fresh siding, the gutters are clean and set, and everything looks exactly the way it should, That settled feeling is what we're after on every single job.

Every project gets the same care and attention to detail, whether it's a small repair or a full exterior install.

You see the gutter. You never see the hanger. But that small fastener is what holds the whole system in place.

A gutter hanger anchors the channel directly to the fascia board. That one piece carries everything: the weight of the gutter, a full run of water, debris, and Ohio ice load through the winter.

Spacing is where it lives or dies. Too far apart, and the run starts to sag, water pools, and the system quietly fails before you ever notice from the ground.

On a seamless run, the hangers sit hidden inside the channel. That's the point. The installation looks clean from the street because the real work is happening out of sight.

Every fastener we drive is also a check on the fascia board underneath it. A hanger in soft wood won't hold through a single Ohio winter, so we look at the wood first. Sound board, then the hanger. That's how it stays put.

There is more going on above your roofline than a metal channel catching rain. Every layer of a proper seamless gutter system has a specific job, and skipping any one of them is how water finds its way into your basement or foundation.

Here is what a complete installation actually looks like, from the fascia outward:

🏠 The seamless aluminum channel is formed from one continuous piece of heavy-gauge aluminum spanning your entire roofline. No joints along the run means no joint seals to fail, which is exactly where sectional gutters most often leak.

💧 Downspout placement is not guesswork. Each downspout is positioned to move water away from your foundation, and the channel is angled so water flows toward it rather than pooling and spilling over the edge.

🔧 The downspout extension carries water the last critical distance from your wall. Without it, water discharges at the base of the foundation and begins eroding soil or seeping toward a basement.

📍 Buried drainage pipes take it one step further, redirecting runoff well away from your landscaping. That layer is invisible once the job is complete, which is exactly why it is easy to skip and easy to regret.

A well-installed gutter system is a sequence of deliberate decisions, not one piece of metal hung on a house. Once you know what each layer does, it gets a lot easier to recognize quality work and ask the right questions before water damage becomes a problem.

Wondering whether your gutters have every layer they need? We serve Summit, Stark, and Portage Counties and are glad to take a look. Reach out to Conley Exteriors today.

Most gutter problems we see trace back to few habits that feel harmless until the water finds a way in. Here are the three mistakes we run into most often, paired with the fix that actually works.

Don't: Clean only when your gutters overflow. By the time water spills over the edge, it may already be pressing against the fascia or soaking the soil at your foundation.
Do: Clean on a schedule tied to your tree cover, so debris never gets the chance to back up. 💧

Don't: Run a DIY bead of leftover sealant over a failing joint. That treats the symptom and hides the cause, and old cracked material under a fresh bead rarely holds through an Ohio winter.
Do: Have the joint properly reseated with fresh material so it stops leaking for good. 🔧

Don't: Skip the walkthrough after a big storm. That's how small dents and separations turn into full replacements.
Do: Check the gutters after any significant wind or ice load, before the next rain arrives. A five-minute look catches problems while they're still repairs.

Every one of these fixes costs less than the water damage it prevents. And whether it's a single joint or a full run of new gutter, every project we take on gets the same care and attention to detail, no matter how big or small. 🏠

That dripping sound long after the rain has stopped is gutter overflow. 💧

Gutter overflow happens when water cannot exit through the downspout fast enough, so it spills over the gutter edge instead of running away from your home.

A properly working gutter system carries water in one controlled path away from your roofline, walls, and foundation. Overflow breaks that path.

Three causes account for nearly every case:
✔ A blockage inside the gutter
✔ A pitch that has shifted over time
✔ A gutter sized too small for the roof it serves

If you have heard that post-rain drip, give us a call, and we can diagnose what is causing it. 🏠

You have probably seen "fascia" on an estimate without anyone stopping to explain it. Here is what it actually does for your home.

Fascia is the flat board that runs along your roofline, right where the gutters attach. 🏠 It is the structural anchor that holds the entire gutter system in place.

When that board goes soft, rots, or starts pulling away from the roofline, your gutters can't hold their pitch or their weight. No new installation will stay sound until the fascia is addressed first. That is why it is one of the first things we check before any gutter work begins.

Your gutters can be perfectly clean and still send water straight into your foundation. A downspout extension is the short pipe that carries roof water several feet past the foundation of the house before releasing it into the yard.

Without one, every rain dumps water right where the downspout ends. The soil against your foundation stays saturated storm after storm, and that pressure works against the wall over time.

Add the extension and that water gets redirected across the yard. The ground around the foundation finally dries out between rains. 💧

"I called Conley Exteriors to help me put the finishing touches on a replacement roof on my house. My previous contractor lacked the skills needed, so Josh came and saved the day. Chris, Nathan and Tim worked meticulously to make the final product just the way I had hoped. I am so happy with the end results I love walking out my back door and looking up at it. All the guys who were at my house were very respectful and cleaned up everything before leaving each day. You can't go wrong hiring this company."
