Good morning, Gulf Coast.

After heavy rain and flooding risk like we just saw, indoor air quality is worth thinking about, even if your home stayed dry. Excess moisture anywhere near your system or ductwork can lead to mold growth that you won't necessarily see or smell right away.

If your home has felt musty, extra humid, or just "off" since the storm, it might be worth having your system and air quality checked. Catching it early is a lot easier than dealing with a mold problem down the line.

Not every repair is created equal. Some fixes solve the actual problem. Others just patch the symptom long enough to get you through until it breaks again, usually at the worst possible time.

We'd rather tell you what's really going on with your system, even if that means a slightly bigger conversation up front, than hand you a quick fix that leaves you calling us back in a month. It's not always the fastest answer, but it's the one that actually holds up.

That's been our approach since 1982, and it's not changing now.

Good morning, Gulf Coast.

After a storm like we just had, we get a lot of calls about systems that worked fine before and suddenly don't. Power surges are usually the culprit, and they're sneakier than people think.

A surge doesn't always trip a breaker or cause an obvious spark. Sometimes it just quietly damages a circuit board or component, and the system runs rough, short cycles, or stops cooling properly days later. That delay is why people are often surprised the issue is storm-related at all.

If your system's been acting off since the power came back on, that's worth a look, even if nothing seems dramatically wrong yet.

Today we're celebrating a true team staple, Merrill!

Merrill's been with Estes for over 20 years, and if you've ever walked into our shop and noticed how spotless it is, that's him. He takes real pride in keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes, and when install crews need an extra hand, he's always the first to jump in. Never afraid of more work, never complains, just gets it done.

Outside of work, you'll find Merrill at the beach or out on a jet ski, soaking up every bit of sunshine he can get.

20+ years of showing up and doing it right. That kind of loyalty doesn't come around often, and we're lucky to have him.

Good morning, Gulf Coast.

We hope everyone made it through Hurricane Isaias safely. It was a serious storm, and if you're reading this with power back on and your home in one piece, that's genuinely good news worth being grateful for.

For those still dealing with cleanup, downed trees, or damage, please know we're thinking about you. And for anyone whose AC or heating system took a hit, whether from flooding, power surges, or storm debris, give us a call. We're prioritizing storm-related calls this week and want to get your home back to normal as fast as we can.

If your system came through fine, it's still worth a quick once-over after a storm like this. Debris, standing water near the unit, or power fluctuations can cause issues that aren't obvious right away.

That's really what routine maintenance is built for. A good tune-up can catch a loose electrical connection before it becomes a bigger problem, a small refrigerant leak before it hurts your cooling, worn components before they fail completely, and debris or moisture buildup that could lead to corrosion or mold down the line. It's a lot easier to catch these things on a maintenance visit than to deal with them as a breakdown later.

This is the only post we're putting out today, because this matters more than our regular content.

Hurricane Isaias is now sitting right on the edge of major Category 3 strength, with sustained winds at 110 mph and climbing. The National Hurricane Center's latest advisory shows the storm still intensifying, and landfall is expected tonight.

Life-threatening storm surge of 5 to 9 feet is forecast along the coast, with the highest surge between the Alabama/Florida line and Grayton Beach. That includes Mobile Bay and Dauphin Island. If you are in a low-lying or evacuation zone, time is almost out to leave safely. Outer rainbands are already moving in, and conditions will only get worse from here.

If you're staying put outside the evacuation zones, please finish your prep now, not later:

Secure anything loose outside, especially around your AC unit
Charge phones, flashlights, and any backup batteries
Have water and non-perishables on hand for several days
Fuel up vehicles and know your evacuation route if things change
Save our number — once it's safe to get out, we'll be responding to people who need us

Please don't wait on this one. Get to safety, check on your neighbors, especially anyone elderly or who might need help securing their home. We're thinking about everyone on the coast tonight.

Quick update as we head into the end of the week. Isaias is strengthening and is now expected to become a hurricane by today, Thursday, with forecasters warning it could reach Category 2 strength with winds around 110 mph before making landfall. Current models have landfall happening late Friday night into early Saturday morning, somewhere around the Alabama/Florida line, with the Mobile area well within range.

If you haven't finished prepping yet, today's the day to get it done.

Secure your outdoor unit. Clear anything loose near your AC, patio furniture, branches, debris. A Category 2 brings serious wind, and flying debris is one of the most common ways outdoor units get damaged.

Surge protection matters more now. With this storm strengthening, power surges during the event and during restoration afterward are a real risk. Ask us about whole-home surge protection if you don't already have it.

Know your breaker location. If flooding becomes a concern where you are, you want to be able to shut your system off fast.

Plan for extended outages. A storm this strength can knock out power for a while. Have a plan for anyone heat-sensitive or on refrigerated medication in your household.

Save our number today. Once it's safe to get back out, we want to reach you as quickly as possible.

Building a new home comes with a hundred decisions, and HVAC is one that's easy to overlook until it's almost too late to get it right. The system needs to be sized correctly for the house, the ductwork needs to be planned out properly, and none of that works well as an afterthought.

Good morning, Gulf Coast.

Tropical Storm Isaias has officially formed and is tracking toward the northern Gulf Coast, with landfall currently expected late Friday or early Saturday somewhere between Biloxi and Panama City. That puts us squarely in the impact zone. Forecasters are watching for this one to strengthen as it moves over those record-warm Gulf waters, so it's worth taking seriously now rather than waiting to see what happens.

A few things worth doing while there's still time:

Secure your outdoor unit. Clear loose patio furniture, branches, and debris away from your AC unit. Flying debris is one of the most common causes of storm damage to outdoor equipment.

Check your surge protection. Power surges during a storm, or during power restoration afterward, can fry a system fast. If you don't have whole-home surge protection, this is the week to ask us about it.

Know your shutoff. If flooding is a concern in your area, know where your system's breaker is so you can cut power quickly if water starts getting close.

Plan for extended power loss. If the power goes out for a while, your home heats up fast. Have a plan in place for anyone heat-sensitive or anyone relying on refrigerated medication.

Save our number now. If you lose cooling or heating once this passes, we want to get to you fast, and that's easier when you're not searching for our info mid-storm.
