If your pool turned green right after a fresh fill, green algae might not be the culprit—dissolved metals like copper and iron in tap water react with chlorine, instantly rusting and staining your pool water green.

The good news? It’s completely preventable.

How to avoid metal-green water:

Filter at the Source: Attach a pre-fill hose filter to your garden hose whenever adding fresh water to catch metals, sediment, and minerals before they ever reach your pool.

Use a Metal Sequestrant: If metals are already present, add a sequestering agent to bind them together so your main filtration system can easily sweep them away.
