Mother’s Day season is also Formosan subterranean termite swarm season in our area — starting as early as April, peaking in early to mid-May, and often lasting through June.
Seeing termite swarmers around your home can be frustrating, but killing the swarmers does not stop termite activity or prevent damage. The right first step is having your home inspected by a licensed pest management professional and treated properly if needed.
A few ways to help protect your home:
• Turn off outdoor lights at night in May and June
• Remove wood, cardboard, and other cellulose materials from around or under the home
• Keep mulch 8–12 inches away from the foundation
• Repair outdoor faucet leaks, roof leaks, and plumbing leaks
• Make sure water drains away from the house
• Use only licensed and certified pest management professionals for termite treatment
And remember: if your home has termite damage, hire your own contractor to inspect and repair the damage. Don’t rely only on someone else’s opinion when it comes to protecting your property.
Rellim Contracting can help evaluate and repair termite-damaged areas of your home.
