As we prepare for the upcoming winter season, we want to take a moment to address the significant increases in operating costs affecting the snow and ice management industry.
Over the past year, the cost of providing professional snow removal and ice management services has increased dramatically. Like many businesses, we are facing rising expenses across nearly every aspect of our operations.
Some of the most significant increases include:
🧂 De-Icing Salt: Bulk road salt prices have increased approximately 40% heading into the 2026 winter season. This represents a substantial increase in one of the most essential materials needed to keep parking lots, sidewalks, and commercial properties safe.
⛽ Fuel Costs: Fuel prices have nearly doubled, significantly increasing the expense of operating our plow trucks, loaders, tractors, and other snow removal equipment.
🚜 Equipment & Replacement Costs: The cost of purchasing, maintaining, repairing, and replacing commercial snow removal equipment continues to rise. Keeping reliable equipment ready to respond during winter storms requires a substantial financial investment.
👷 Employee Wages: Labor costs have increased as we continue to invest in dependable, experienced employees who work long hours, often overnight and during hazardous weather conditions, to keep our customers' properties accessible and safe.
🛡️ Insurance Costs: Commercial liability, vehicle, and equipment insurance premiums have also increased significantly. Proper insurance coverage is essential to protecting our customers, employees, and business.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR OUR CUSTOMERS?
Unfortunately, these rising expenses make pricing adjustments necessary for the upcoming winter season.
We understand that nobody wants to see increased pricing, and we do not take these decisions lightly. However, maintaining the level of service, reliability, equipment readiness, and professionalism our customers expect requires us to adjust our rates to reflect the actual cost of doing business.
Snow and ice management involves much more than simply showing up when it snows. It requires maintaining expensive equipment, purchasing and storing materials, employing trained personnel, carrying proper insurance, and being prepared to respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, often under difficult and unpredictable conditions.
Our commitment to our customers has not changed.
We will continue to prioritize safety, dependable service, timely storm response, and the professional standards our customers have come to expect from Glanzer Backyard Design LLC.
We believe in being transparent about why these adjustments are necessary rather than simply increasing prices without explanation.
