From vinyl siding to the look of a classic Montana lodge.

This bed and breakfast on Flathead Lake got a major exterior transformation with our 16″ Hand-Hewn EverLog Concrete Log Siding in Classic Gold.

The warm, golden-brown tones give the property a welcoming feel, while the oversized Hand-Hewn profile adds the texture and character of traditional log construction. It's a combination that works especially well with the natural beauty of the Flathead Lake area.

And with concrete log siding, that traditional look comes with the added benefits of durability and reduced exterior maintenance.

You don't always need another color to create contrast. Sometimes, a different siding profile is all it takes.

This Sierra Nevada mountain cabin is a great example of how mixing horizontal and vertical siding can add architectural interest while keeping the exterior cohesive.

The main walls feature 10″ Plank EverLog Concrete Log Siding, while Board & Batten EverLog Siding introduces vertical lines in the gables, drawing attention to the roofline and breaking up the horizontal pattern.

Both profiles are finished in Historic Brown, allowing the textures and architectural details to stand out without introducing a second siding color. Lighter chinking adds another layer of contrast, defining the individual plank courses.

It's a simple but effective design strategy for any log home or mountain cabin: Let the profiles create the contrast, and the color tie everything together.

A hotel's guest experience starts before check-in.

For a property called "The Lodge", the architecture has an important job: make the name feel like more than just a name.

Located along Interstate 90 in Mauston, Wisconsin, The Lodge at Mauston brings that identity to life with 16″ Hand-Hewn EverLog Concrete Log Siding in Historic Brown.

The oversized log profile gives the hotel and event center the scale and character of a traditional lodge, while the deep brown finish reinforces the warm, rustic aesthetic.

It's a great example of how exterior materials do more than finish a commercial building. They help establish its identity, create a memorable first impression, and set expectations for the experience inside.

One color. Two siding profiles. A stronger architectural statement.

This home and garage in Alpine, Arizona pair 10″ Plank EverLog Concrete Log Siding with Board & Batten, both finished in Rustic Gray.

The horizontal Plank profile establishes the log-home character, while Board & Batten introduces vertical lines that break up the exterior and draw attention to the gables. Natural stone and a metal roof complete a material palette that feels right at home in Arizona’s mountain landscape.

But the material choices here weren’t made for appearance alone. With wildfire risk an important consideration for the homeowners, concrete siding, stone, and metal were intentionally incorporated into the exterior design.

It’s a good example of how fire-conscious home design and mountain architecture can be considered together from the beginning—without compromising the character of the finished home.

Choosing an exterior material is only one part of designing a home or building. What’s behind it—and how each component works together—matters just as much.

In our latest EverLog newsletter, we’re taking a closer look at building-system integration, including how EverLog Concrete Log Siding can work with ICF, the difference between siding and structural EverLogs, and why these decisions are worth discussing early in the design process.

For homeowners, we’re also sharing questions you can bring to your builder or architect before construction begins.

Whether you’re designing, specifying, or planning your own home, thinking about the complete wall system early can lead to better-informed decisions later.

Overlooking Henry’s Lake near Island Park, Idaho, this home uses 16″ Hand-Hewn EverLog Concrete Log Siding in Historic Brown to create the substantial proportions and texture associated with traditional Western log architecture.

The larger Hand-Hewn profile gives the exterior strong horizontal lines, while Woodtone Weatherall 1010 chinking defines each course and adds contrast around the doors and windows. Against the stonework and expansive rooflines, the combination gives the home a sense of visual weight that fits its wide-open surroundings.

And apparently, the architecture gets noticed. The homeowners say several visitors stop by each summer to ask about their EverLog home.

It’s a great example of how profile size, chinking, color, and surrounding materials all work together to establish the character of a mountain home.

What do -20°F winters and 90°F summer days have in common? Your exterior has to handle both.

That’s part of the challenge of building a cabin in Deerwood, Minnesota.

Northern Minnesota can bring deep snow, freezing temperatures, summer heat, and high humidity, putting exterior materials through dramatically different conditions throughout the year.

This cabin uses 8″ Round EverLog Concrete Log Siding in Historic Brown, giving it the familiar shape and texture of traditional round-log construction while replacing real wood siding with concrete.

The 8″ Round profile keeps the classic cabin aesthetic, while Historic Brown adds the deep, natural tones that feel right at home among the lakes and forests of northern Minnesota.

It’s a good reminder that when you’re choosing exterior materials, where you’re building should be part of the decision.

10″ Plank or 16″ Hand-Hewn?

Both create authentic log-home character, but the scale of the profile can change the entire feel of the architecture.

10″ Plank creates a more streamlined look with additional horizontal courses across the wall.

16″ Hand-Hewn makes a bigger visual statement, with a substantial profile and rugged texture inspired by traditional hand-cut logs.

Neither is the “right” choice for every home. It comes down to the architecture, scale, and character you want to create.

Swipe through to see these two profiles in action.

Which would you choose for your home?
