Bad exhaust doesn’t just affect airflow.

It can affect the entire building.

To help support ventilation requirements at a particle physics and accelerator laboratory in Batavia, our team installed a complete rooftop exhaust system, including a new exhaust fan, galvanized ductwork, a new building penetration, roof supports, vibration isolation, flashing, sealing, and weatherproofing.

Creating a dedicated exhaust path sounds simple.

It isn’t.

Every support has to carry the load. Every penetration has to protect the building envelope. Every seal has to keep water and unwanted air where it belongs.

That’s the part nobody notices when the job is done right.

And that’s exactly how it should be.

Yeah… this boiler was a mess.
What started as planned maintenance before inspection turned into a full cleanout. Our crew found the issue, cleaned everything up, and got it ready to go.

Small problem. Big cleanup. Handled.

Sometimes the best thing a compass does isn’t tell you where you are.

It reminds you where you’re capable of going.

Members of our team recently attended the WiMI Conference, an event dedicated to advancing women in mechanical contracting through education, mentorship, networking, and professional growth.

This year’s theme, COMPASS: Charting Your Course, Connecting Your Purpose, challenged attendees to reflect on their journeys, strengthen their leadership paths, and connect with others helping shape the future of our industry.

The experience left a lasting impact on everyone who attended.

As Tammy Blacklaw shared:
“Stepping into the WiMi Conference was another eye-opening experience.
Surrounded by hundreds of women in a traditionally male-dominated field, the three days were packed with inspiration, hands-on networking, and practical career development.
It gave me the perfect tools to recalibrate my career and map out the next steps of my professional journey. I highly recommend that today’s young women look strongly into becoming a part of the Mechanical Industry.”

The conference also sparked a powerful realization for Jazmin Velazquez:
“Just when I thought I had hit my 'peak' professionally, I was encouraged by one of the conference speakers to have a 'futuristic' mindset. I realize that I AM NOT DONE! I still have the potential within me that will make me more successful over the next 5, 10, and even 20 years. I have established a strong foundation, and now it’s time to remodel or even build that new skyscraper!”

Those reflections capture exactly what WiMI is all about.

Our industry is built by people who are constantly learning, adapting, and finding new ways to grow. Conferences like WiMI provide more than professional development; they create opportunities to build relationships, share experiences, and inspire the next generation of leaders in mechanical contracting.

Thank you to the organizers, speakers, mentors, and attendees who made this year’s event such a meaningful experience.

The future of our industry is being built every day, and it’s encouraging to see so many talented women helping lead the way.

Work is underway at a local Wastewater Plant as part of a major basin renovation.

Our crew started by removing and storing the existing agitator, shaft assembly, and motor so the equipment can be reused in the new basin. This phase required careful handling, coordination, and proper storage to keep the components protected for future installation.

We also assisted with removing and storing the new bar skimmer, so it’s ready when the project moves into the next phase.

This is the kind of early-stage work that sets up the rest of the renovation: remove the right equipment, protect what’s being reused, keep the site organized, and make sure the next crew has what they need when it’s time to install.

More updates to come as work continues.

Here’s what fab shop work looks like before it ever hits the field.

These photos show a piece coming together step by step: fit-up, first weld, and final weld.

But the work doesn’t stop once the weld is filled in.

Before fabricated pipe heads to the field, our team checks it against the drawings and performs the required testing to make sure it’s built right, holds right, and is ready to install the way it was planned.

The more we can verify in the shop, the less the field has to sort out later. Cleaner installs. Fewer surprises. Better flow for the crew putting it in place.

The welds are HOT in the fab shop!

Our fitters are currently in the DePue fab shop working on 12" and 16" steam piping for the world’s largest dry-mill ethanol facility out in Hennepin, IL. Once complete, roughly 2000 feet of piping will be shipped out to be installed on-site.

Are you looking to save time and money out in the field? Check out our prefab options for all your project needs.

A 44-year-old air handler is not built for convenience.ďż˝

At PPC Packaging, our service crew recently cleaned the evaporator coil inside an aging air handling unit that’s been running for more than four decades.

Getting to the coil meant climbing inside the unit and working through years of buildup in a tight, dirty access area.ďż˝

That coil is doing important work. It helps pull heat and humidity out of the air. When it gets packed with dirt and debris, the whole system starts fighting itself.ďż˝

Less airflow.Less cooling.More strain on the equipment.

And in a production facility, that shows up fast.ďż˝

This service helped open the coil back up, improve airflow, and give the system a better shot at keeping up without beating itself to death.ďż˝

Old equipment has a way of making simple jobs complicated.

Our crew handled it and kept the unit moving.ďż˝
