Beautiful landscapes start below the surface. The old retaining walls built by someone else failed after 5 years…now we’re rebuilding it the right way. Stay tuned as this project comes to life.

It’s been an absolutely incredible week to be a welder. Cold mornings, mild noons, a backyard next to a babbling creek, and 10,000 lbs worth of steel going in to create this tiered patio space for biota Landscapes 💪🏻😎💪🏻

Leave the leaves? There’s more to it than you may think 🍂

Fallen leaves shelter overwintering butterflies, moths and bees providing critical habitat. Hollow stems give insects a place to nest and seed heads on grasses like little bluestem feed birds all winter.

When all the leaf litter is removed, the impact shows up the next spring…one study found 45% fewer butterflies and moths emerged. We’ve found unique ways to mitigate this.

Our horticulturists are looking at every property and deciding what should stay, what should go, and what should be composted. Thoughtful fall cleanup supports next spring’s pollinators and keeps your biota beautiful, safe, and functional.

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor Native voices, art, and the generations of knowledge rooted in this land.

At the Weisman Art Museum, the work of Dakota artist Marlena Myles Marlena Myles and Anishinaabe artist Natchez Beaulieu Natchez Beaulieu reminds us that meaningful landscapes begin with listening, learning, and honoring Indigenous perspectives.

Supporting Native artists means more than celebrating their work. It means listening to their stories, honoring their connections to ancestral lands, and ensuring their voices are heard.

We’re honored to have contributed to this exhibition honoring their voices and we encourage you to go see it in person. There are special open hours today and tomorrow at the Weisman and you can hear these artists special keynote tomorrow at University of Minnesota

A design this intricate takes more than precision. It takes patience, craftsmanship, and a deep respect for the story behind the work ✨🌌💧

We’re honored to have helped bring Native American artist Natchez Beaulieu’s Ojichaagobiishin (Reflection in Water) to the Weisman Art Museum as part of Merciless: Indigenous Lands Since 1776. Inspired by the medicine wheel and traditional Anishinaabe star knowledge, Natchez’s design was meticulously hand-cut and assembled by our team into the finished mosaic pavement. The nearly completed space now comes together with Marlena Myles’ Ancestral Currents: From Bdóte to the Stars, connecting art, landscape, Indigenous teachings, and place along Wakpá Tháŋka, the Mississippi River. Marlena Myles

Join us for the free opening festival Saturday, September 26, from 10–5pm. The outdoor installation is permanent and will be part of the site through and beyond the exhibition, which runs through May 23, 2027.

It’s all in the details. ✨

1. The contrast between the yellow in the goldenrod and the blue tones in the boulders are eye-catching as you walk down our client’s path to their fire pit.

2. A hidden artichoke in our HQ display garden, a fun reminder that you can weave edible plants into your landscaping.

3. Gourds and pumpkins arriving at our HQ just in time for our client’s fall container and front porch displays.

4. A friendly pollinator stops to enjoy the wildflower garden along the hillside of our client’s home.

5. Designing with the dead. This fallen tree lines the path to our client’s fire pit. Adding interest, a home for critters, and eventually naturally decomposing overtime.

6. Intricate boulder work went into creating a sunken patio + fire pit for our client. Overlooking the stunning views of the Mississippi River, the first sign of fall is peaking through the gorge.

7. 10+ varieties of sedum went onto this green roof for our client. These varieties range from wind and drought resistant to shade-loving for the north facing side of the home.
