Seeing spots? That's because it's the time of year Asian lady beetles swarm looking for overwintering sites (in fact, in some areas they're known as Halloween lady beetles!) 🐞 While they are considered a nuisance around the home, they can be beneficial insects due to their aphid diet.

To see fewer around your home:
🐞 Remove damaged fruit from the tree/shrub and keep fallen fruit off the ground
🐞 Seal gaps and cracks around your home before late September
🐞 Sweep/vacuum up and dispose of found beetles

Fall may be here (or is it? These 80 degree days have us doubting 🤔) but that's not a reason to stop watering! In fact, be sure to keep giving those plants a drink until the ground freezes.

Once the ground freezes, plants like evergreens are unable to get more water through their roots, so a good fall watering is key to keeping them happy and healthy through the winter. 🎄 You can also tuck a little mulch in around the base to help keep that fall moisture in at the roots.

As we head into fall and winter, watch out for hungry hoppers who may find a meal in your landscape. 🌱🐰 The very BEST way to prevent rabbit damage is a barrier of entry! 🐰🌱 This can look like:

🐰 Wire Guards: Two or three foot hardware cloth or poultry netting wrapped around trees and shrubs. They should be several inches greater than the diameter of the trunk.

🐰 Wire Cloche: Covering smaller plants with a wire cage. You can even use cheap, wire trashcans as long as sun and air can move through the space.

🐰 Fencing: Use 2-foot chicken wire or hardware cloth with a mesh of 1in or less and the bottom tight to the ground or buried.

🐰 Repellent: Find smells or repellent products that your rabbits don't enjoy. (Note: can vary based on rabbits, and sometimes rabbits will get used to the smell or the same smell won't affect newer generations)

It has prominent seed heads, great for bees and other insects, and will grow well in almost any sunny spot. 🌞
