Why LPR’s?! This is why! License plate readers cameras were the hero’s of this story! These are great to have around your business or even your home!

Anna, along with several surrounding communities, has been hit hard by electrical breaker thieves targeting newly built homes. Earlier this week, detectives and patrol officers worked together to obtain intel and video, identifying a possible suspect vehicle. The vehicle was entered into the Flock license plate reader system, and today, the vehicle was detected by one of our LPR cameras.

An off-duty detective saw the hit while at home and alerted patrol at the same time on-duty patrol officers also noted it. The vehicle was tracked to Anna Town Square, where an officer/pilot immediately deployed a drone. The drone tracked the suspects as they walked around, casing the neighborhood, through three battery changes. The drone maintained surveillance on the suspects until they re-entered their vehicle and drove away.

Patrol officers stopped the suspect vehicle for a traffic violation and placed the driver under arrest. A subsequent search led to the discovery of 288 stolen electrical breakers. The suspect is currently leading officers to a number of offense locations spanning multiple jurisdictions.

This demonstrates phenomenal teamwork between multiple patrol shifts, the drone unit, and the criminal investigations division, and will solve numerous cases. Great work by all involved!
