🌱 Can we talk about how CONFUSING gardening advice can be?!

Everybody has an opinion, and sometimes the advice completely contradicts itself! 😂

But here’s what I want you to know: You don’t have to be an expert to grow your own food.

I’m gardening in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Zone 6a), and I’m sharing the lessons, mistakes, harvests, and everything in between.

One of the biggest fall gardening mistakes is waiting until spring to start thinking about next year’s garden.

Before you forget everything you learned this season:

📸 Take pictures of your garden.
📝 Write down what worked and what didn’t.
🌱 Consider getting your soil tested.
🪴 Start planning next year’s garden layout.

You don’t have to have everything figured out. Just use what you learned this year to make next season a little easier!

Nobody mentions how much your garden’s sunlight changes throughout the year! ☀️🍂

If you’ve noticed your garden getting less direct sunlight lately, you’re not imagining things.

As the seasons change, the sun’s position changes too, which means different areas of your garden receive different amounts of light.

But remember: a shady spot in October isn’t necessarily a shady spot in June!

Before you throw away all your herbs this fall, READ THIS! 👀🌿

Some herbs that look dead after cold weather may simply be dormant.

And if you pull them out, you could be throwing away plants that would’ve come back next spring!

🌿 Oregano
🌿 Thyme
🌿 Sage
🌿 Chives

These can survive Wisconsin winters when established and suited to the growing conditions.

But basil and rosemary are a different story in our climate!
