The part of your patio you'll never see is the part that decides whether it lasts.

Base prep is the easiest thing to cut from a quote, because on day one nobody can tell. Skip it and the pavers sink, shift and grow weeds through the joints.

Has a contractor ever told you how deep they were digging? Ask before you sign.

Base prep and what goes in the joints are what decide whether a patio sinks, shifts and grows weeds a few years in. They're also the two easiest things to leave out of a number to make it look better.
