I am keeping this Marans trio. I had gotten extremely discouraged with this breed, due to very low quality or mixed breeding claiming to be pure. However this trio plus my blue hen (a year old), is the start of a strong good quality flock. I had thought I didn't have run space for them, but my small turkey flock is actually happier to be with Barnvelder. I can't have too many hens for a lot of reasons. So rather than doing 9 laying hens per run (original goal). We are doing 6 laying hens per run, this allows me to keep more retirees (hens who don't lay but love cleaning my yard). We are all set to be able to supply Svarthona, Barnvelder, Copper Marans, Crested Cream Legbars, Bardu D' Watermael as pure bred. We also added olive egger, moonbeams, green egger as hybrid chicks. We will have a small group of random barnyard bantams (simply because we fell in love with a few tiny cuties over the years). Of course there will be turkey, Muscovy, and call ducks.
