If you work in risk, you already know what that means. For everyone else, here is why it matters.

That is our experience modification rate. 1.00 is the industry average. Below 1.00 means fewer and less costly claims than a comparable contractor, and it is calculated from three years of actual loss history. It is not a claim anyone can make about themselves.

It matters on your project for two reasons. It is one of the first things a risk manager checks on a prequalification, and a crew with a low EMR is usually a crew that is not rushing.

OSHA-certified crew leaders, and we self-perform the large majority of our work.

A quality concrete floor starts long before the final finish.

From placing and leveling to finishing the surface, every stage of a commercial concrete pour requires coordination, the right equipment, and an experienced crew.

Here's a look at our team at work.

If you have two slab bids in front of you and they are within a few percent of each other, the price is not where the difference is.

Four things to check instead.

What flatness are they committing to, and is it written as a number. FF 50 / FL 35 means something. "Industry standard" does not.

Who is actually pouring it. A number that depends on three subcontractors showing up is a different number to a self-performed crew.

What happens if it fails the F-number survey. Whose cost is the grinding, and is that in writing before anyone mobilises.

And what is excluded. The gap between two bids is usually sitting in the exclusions rather than in the line items.

None of that is about us. It is just what we would check.

If you've run enough jobs, you've seen a problem land between two subs with nobody willing to own it.

That's why we keep handoffs to a minimum. Our own crews self-perform the large majority of our work, and the laser screeds on our pours are ours, not rentals. No waiting on someone else's equipment, and one company accountable for your slab from first pour to final finish.

If you're building a warehouse, the floor is the part of the building your operation touches every shift.

Flatness (FF) and levelness (FL) decide whether racking stands plumb and whether lift trucks can run at speed down the aisles. When they come in low, the cost shows up later in slower traffic, extra equipment wear and grinding, long after the concrete crew has gone home.

We laser screed warehouse and industrial floors to FF 50 / FL 35 or better, and FF 50+ is standard on our large warehouse slabs.

A lot has changed in commercial concrete since 2000. What a general contractor needs from the concrete sub hasn't.

Show up on the day you committed to. Hit the numbers on the drawings. Don't leave anything behind that has to be ground down or torn out.

That's been the job for 26 years: warehouse slabs, industrial floors, foundations and parking lots from 20,000 to 100,000+ sqft, based in Millersburg, Ohio and working across OH, IN, MI, WV and PA.

The slabs that go wrong are almost always the ones where concrete was the last thing anyone thought about.

We are taking 2027 bids now.

If you are scoping a warehouse, distribution centre or industrial floor for next year, earlier is genuinely better. Bring us in while the structural drawings are still moving and we can tell you what the floor needs before it becomes expensive to change.

Estimator responds within 24 hours.

Flatness is easy to put in a spec and hard to see in a photograph. So here it is at floor level.

FF 50 / FL 35 or better is what we routinely achieve on warehouse and industrial pours, and FF 50 or better is standard on every large warehouse floor we do.

The reason it matters is not the number. It is that a very flat floor means racking sits true, lift trucks run at speed without pitching, and nobody is grinding a slab after handover to make the equipment work.

That is what on spec, zero rework actually means in practice.

A bad slab follows a building for life.

Yoder Laser Concrete pours commercial and industrial floors of 10,000 sq. ft. and up across Ohio and surrounding states, using laser screeds and our own crew.

Cold weather does not stop a pour. It changes four things.

The mix gets adjusted. Hydration slows as temperatures drop, so the design has to account for it rather than hoping.

The cure takes longer, and it needs protecting. Blankets, heat, or both, depending on the forecast and the slab.

The finishing window moves. Bleed water behaves differently, and a crew that finishes on a summer clock will get it wrong.

And the schedule needs slack in it, because you are now working around weather rather than through it.

None of that is exotic. It is just the difference between a crew that pours all year and one that does not.
