This Labor Day, let’s talk about what LABOR is actually worth.
Apple releases a new device, names the price, and millions find room in the budget.
Yet when the water stops, the toilet won’t flush, the power goes out or the A/C quits — we expect the labor to fix it to be cheap.
Here’s the irony:
That device can be produced by the millions, in a factory, in another country.
Skilled labor can’t.
It takes a trained person, at your home, with the right tools, equipment, licensing, insurance and experience to solve your problem.
Essential labor is often more expensive to provide than the luxuries we willingly spend thousands to own.
Sure, someone unlicensed may do it cheaper.
Until cheap becomes expensive, or they take your money and don’t return to finish the job in.
This Labor Day, remember:
Fund the NEEDS. Budget the WANTS.
And value the labor that keeps life running.
