CITY OF MILAN LEAF COLLECTION SEASON

Milan Public Works will begin leaf collection on November 2, 2026, with the season running through February 5, 2027.

To help our crews provide safe and efficient service, please follow these guidelines:

Leaf Placement
• Place leaves within 3 feet of the street edge in a continuous row.
• Do not place leaves in the street or in drainage ditches.
• Keep leaves away from mailboxes, meter lids, utility lines, poles, and other structures.
• Do not mix limbs, trash, or other debris with leaves. Foreign material can damage our equipment. Leaf piles containing other debris will not be collected.

Collection Schedule
• Milan Public Works will make multiple passes throughout the city during leaf season. Because collection times depend on weather conditions and the volume of leaves, we cannot predict exactly when crews will reach a particular street.
• During peak season, it may take several days to complete a full rotation through the city. We appreciate your patience and ask residents to watch for when their leaves are collected and prepare their next pile accordingly.

End-of-Season Reminder
• Please have your final leaves ready for collection no later than the last week of January to help ensure they are collected during the final rotation.
• After February 5, 2027, ALL leaves and loose yard clippings must be bagged for collection.
• We ask residents to please refrain from requesting additional or special leaf pickups before the end of leaf season. Following these guidelines will help our crews provide safe, efficient service throughout the community.

Questions? Contact Milan Public Works at 731-686-1611.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation, and we look forward to a safe and productive leaf season!

We had a pretty cool experience today while doing a huge cleanup for a nursing home here in Milan.

A young boy came up to us while we were working. He had been going around the neighborhood asking people if they’d be interested in buying his BB gun because he wanted to buy a small survival kit from Walmart.

We told him we didn’t have any use for a BB gun, but if he really wanted to earn some money, we had plenty of work he could help us with.

His job was simple…help us load the trailer with the small branches and debris we were cutting down. We didn’t let him use any of our equipment or anything he could hurt himself with, so he basically got stuck with the grunt work 😂.

The funny thing is, we never even told him what we were going to pay him.

After a little while, we actually encouraged him to go home and tell his parents what he was doing and make sure they were okay with it. After all, we were still two strangers in their eyes.

We honestly weren’t sure if we’d see him again.

But he came back.

His parents were proud of him for wanting to work, and this kid stayed out there with us through a long, hot day doing some pretty physically demanding work. When I went to get us lunch, I grabbed him some too. When we joked around and picked on each other, he got his fair share😂…and he had no problem dishing it right back!

We ended up having a great time while getting some serious work done.

When we finally finished, we handed him $20 just to see his reaction.

He stared at it for a few seconds like he was reconsidering every decision that had led him to working in the heat all day for twenty bucks 😂.

Then I stepped forward and handed him his actual payment:

$100.

Man, y’all should’ve seen his face.

Pure surprise and excitement.

We didn’t really need the extra help. We gave him the opportunity because he came to us trying to find a way to earn something he wanted. From what he told us, he had never gone out and worked for complete strangers to earn his own money before.

Hopefully, this is one of those days he remembers for a long time.

But the best part actually happened afterward.

He accidentally left his BB gun on our truck, so he came back about 15 minutes later before we took off. We asked him what he planned on doing with his money.

In those 15 minutes, he had already given some of it to his mother…and some of it to a neighbor who was struggling.

He started the day trying to sell something he owned just to get enough money to buy something he wanted.

He ended it earning $100 with his own hands and immediately sharing some of it with other people.

What a day.

We might’ve thought we were giving a kid an opportunity today, but I think he reminded us of a few things too.

Hard work, generosity, and a good heart can take you a long way. ❤️

One of my favorite lawns to mow every week.

Believe it or not, this lawn doesn’t get fertilizer or w**d treatments. Just consistent mowing and attention to detail. It goes to show what regular maintenance can do.

If you’d like your lawn looking its best this season, I’d love to help.
