What began as a simple stop during my first visit to Kaua‘i 11+ years ago, soon became one of the most captivating places on the island for me: Havaiki Oceanic & Tribal Art , a shop alive with the spirit of The Pacific Islands, filled with breathtaking artifacts, masterfully crafted artwork, and layers of history that teach you something new with every visit.

It was an honor to be able to restore the two main hand carved Tiki statues and display frames throughout the courtyard in front of the store. I really enjoy working on these exotic woods like Monkeypod and Ipe because the grain that shows through in the end always looks incredible. This was a really cool project for a really cool place!

If you find yourself on Kaua‘i and haven’t visited yet, this shop is an experience unlike any other. It holds some of the most rare, authentic, and visually stunning artifacts and works of art you’ll encounter anywhere, representing the talent and spirit of hundreds of gifted artists and craftspeople from across the Pacific Islands.

“There’s two types of wood in Hawaii, Rotted and Rotting.”

This deck was getting to hot in the sun but it also needed a little bit of work before getting repainted. Some soft and spongey boards got cut out and replaced, rebuilt stringer and steps, rebuilt small platform from path and a handful of balusters. 🪚🪵

I worked in this unit for about month. The main project was doing the Ipe wood wall covering. I also painted the entire unit white (it was only primed), repainted outdoor furniture (no photo), pressure washed both lanais, restored exterior door (last post) and hung pictures. I really enjoyed having that view while I worked! 🌅 🌊

Went back to my roots with this one! First fence built in Hawaii (also the first fence I’ve ever been able to start late December and finish early January 🚫❄️🚫).
Stick built with treated lumber, cedar panels and finished with a Coffee ☕️ stain & sealant.
