🏠 HOMEOWNERS: KNOW YOUR ROOFING CLAIM
When you file an insurance claim for storm damage, having a knowledgeable contractor helping you through the process can be extremely valuable.
But there’s a difference between having someone help you through your claim and completely checking out of the process.
It’s your home.
It’s your insurance policy.
It’s your claim.
And ultimately, you should understand what is happening.
A good contractor shouldn’t just say, “Don’t worry about anything—we’ll handle it all.” They should take the time to explain the process and keep you involved.
You should understand:
• What damage was found and why a claim may be appropriate
• What was reported to your insurance company
• What your adjuster approved or denied
• What your insurance estimate actually includes
• Your deductible and your responsibility as the homeowner
• ACV, RCV and recoverable depreciation
• What supplements are being submitted and why
• What work your contractor is actually performing
• What documents you’re being asked to sign
• What the final paperwork says before the claim is closed
There is absolutely nothing wrong with allowing an experienced roofing contractor to assist with inspections, meet with the adjuster, document damage, identify missing items and help communicate construction-related information.
That’s part of what we do for our customers.
But you should never feel like you have no idea what is happening with your own claim.
At RCB Contracting Services, LLC, our goal isn’t to take the homeowner out of the process. It’s to help educate and guide them through it.
We want our customers to know what we’re submitting, what insurance is paying for, what they are responsible for, and what work is being completed on their property.
Ask questions.
Read your paperwork.
Keep copies of your documents.
And choose a contractor who is willing to explain the process—not just tell you to trust it.
An informed homeowner is a protected homeowner.
