Stephen Dale Jaime is my Nephew... and is in need of a Bone Marrow Transplant!

On November 19th, Dale went to the emergency clinic with flu-like symptoms and blurred vision. His blood work showed abnormalities, and he was admitted into the hospital the next day. Two days later, Dale was transferred to Lewis Cancer Center at Candler Hospital in Savannah and was given an official diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. During the three weeks following, Dale received chemotherapy and had a collapsed lung during a biopsy attempt. Currently, Dale is waiting for a bone marrow match. He will be on a schedule of one week in the hospital for chemo followed by two to three weeks at home with Dr. visits three times a week to check blood counts. Many of those checkups result in blood and/or platelet transfusions.

Once a bone marrow match is found, Dale will be treated at Northside Hospital in Atlanta. He will begin 5-7 days of chemo and radiation before receiving the bone marrow cell infusion. For the first month following the procedure, he will go to the hospital daily for radiation treatments, saline, and blood work. For the following 2-5 months, the process will be the same, but only 3 times a week.

After extensive research, his insurance will not cover personal housing during this process. He will need monthly rent for himself and his caregiver along with the normal gas, electric, cable, phone, etc. Dale and Shannon are preparing to stay in Atlanta (per doctor’s orders) for at least 6 months.
