This aerial image of a still largely undeveloped Everglades City, Florida, from the early 1920s is one of the most revealing I've yet seen.
The town's major landmarks are easily recognizable—the Rod and Gun Club, City Hall, Everglades Bank, and the roundabout that marks the town center. Yet many of the buildings that once lined "Broadway Avenue" have since disappeared.
On the north side of the image, much of the river and canal system had yet to be dredged, though the recognizable peninsula is already visible.
