Tip from a Plumber. With the freeze that is coming the best way to prevent pipes from freezing is to run your water especially if you live in a raised home. This includes your hot water side just turn your water heater breaker off at night. Pipes will absolutely still freeze even if they are insulated with the temps we have coming. Installation only buys you a little time not hours. Also turning the water off to your home thinking you will drain everything will almost guarantee you a busted line somewhere it’s next to impossible to fully drain your plumbing system without properly blowing it out with compressed air or if your system was designed to be drained and that’s most unlikely. If you are on a Well use a heat lamp to keep your pressure switch warm it’s very important that the little 1/4 pipe that goes to your pressure switch is protected since it’s small size that allows it to freeze very quickly causing you to loose water allowing the rest of your system to freeze. Outdoor tankless water heaters have become very popular they will freeze and burst I’ve seen several same goes for ones in attics. Not all have freeze protection built in them. You can turn the power off and run water through them if you need hot water just power it back up. Running water the next few days will be far cheaper than a plumber. Good luck everyone🙏🏼
