Tropic Mechanical President Jerry Fernandez with FIU President Jeanette M. Nuñez, celebrating a partnership that runs deep.

Today, 10 FIU engineers are part of the Tropic team with more joining every year, bringing their talent to the work we do across South Florida.

That connection continues as Tropic begins work on the FIU Innovation Building at the College of Computing and Engineering, a space where the next generation of engineers will learn and grow.

We’re excited for what’s ahead. Building the future together.

In healthcare HVAC design, temperature is only part of the equation.

Humidity control plays a critical role in maintaining controlled environments, protecting sensitive equipment, and reducing conditions that can contribute to mold growth.

In South Florida, where high outdoor humidity is a constant design consideration, managing moisture has to be addressed from the beginning, not as an afterthought.

At Tropic Mechanical, our design-build approach considers humidity control as an integral part of HVAC system design, helping healthcare facilities maintain the precise environmental conditions their spaces require.

Did you know? In healthcare facilities, controlling humidity can be just as critical, if not more critical than controlling temperature.

Excess humidity can compromise sterile environments, contribute to mold growth, and affect sensitive medical equipment.

And in South Florida’s hot, humid climate, getting it right is especially important.

That’s why at Tropic Mechanical, humidity control is built into our design-build process from the start, not treated as an afterthought.

We breathe life into great buildings.

Meet the next generation of engineers. 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️

This summer, McKenna, Derek, and Sean stepped beyond the classroom and onto real jobsites, gaining hands-on experience in mechanical engineering, fabrication, preconstruction, project management, and field operations.

From visiting active projects to learning alongside experienced professionals, they experienced firsthand what it takes to bring complex HVAC systems to life.

Thank you, McKenna, Derek, and Sean for spending your summer with us. We’re excited to see all you’ll accomplish!

What does “Design-Build” actually mean?

In traditional construction, design and construction are handled by separate firms, often leading to miscommunication, change orders, and unnecessary delays.

Design-build brings both under one team, from initial concept through final handover.

✔ Better collaboration

✔ Fewer handoffs

✔ Fewer surprises

It’s the integrated approach Tropic Mechanical leads on for healthcare, institutional, and commercial projects across Florida.
