A celebration in honor of Colin Rowe (1920–99) will be held at Cornell in Rome on Thursday, April 16, at 6 p.m. As director of the Urban Design Studio at Cornell, Rowe’s teaching career at Cornell spanned nearly three decades from 1962 to 1990. This event will highlight his contribution to urban design and the recent publication which pays tribute to that work, The Urban Design Legacy of Colin Rowe, coedited by Steven W. Hurtt and James T. Tice. A panel discussion by three distinguished urbanists, including DPZ's Managing Partner Galina Tachieva, will provide a commentary on the topic.

The proceedings will be live-streamed via Zoom (the link is posted in the announcement).

Attend a panel discussion celebrating former Architecture faculty member Colin Rowe's lasting impact on the study of architectural and urban history and design, marked by a recent publication that pays tribute to his legacy.

We mourn the loss of Seaside Institute fellow, Richard Gibbs.

Gibbs was a Seaside Prize recipient in 2019. He was educated at the Rhode Island School of Design, Gibbs was the Principal in R.M. Gibbs Design, which he started in 1975. In 1986 he designed and built a home in the early years of Seaside (1986) ultimately designing homes in the New Urban Community. In 1990 he became the Town Architect for Seaside, FL at the invitation of Robert Davis in 1990. Six years later he became the Town Architect for Rosemary Beach and then afterward created the Community of Draper Lake Coastal Village in Santa Rosa Beach and Brewster Point in Rockport Maine.

Gibbs client list includes: renovation and restoration of two apartments at the Dakota, a National Landmark building in New York City; design of a new entrance building for Blithewold Mansion and Gardens, an historic 34-acre estate in Bristol, Rhode Island.; design of an event pavilion at Eden State Gardens, an historic home and garden in Point Washington, Florida; more than thirty houses in New England; more than thirty buildings in Florida and Louisiana. A number of his projects have been published in magazines and books.

✨ We’re excited to share that our Managing Partner Galina Tachieva and Partner Senen M. A. Antonio will be presenting the keynote “Making Cities” on the Main Stage of the World Architecture Festival 2025, taking place Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 10:45 AM–11:30 AM (US Eastern) at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

In their talk they will explore how cities balance shared space and benefit with individual identity and goals — how architecture and urbanism respond to both minds and hearts through replicability and expression.
