Shallow vs. Deep Foundations 🏗️
Not all buildings use the same type of foundation. The right choice depends on soil strength, the weight of the structure, and what a geotechnical report reveals about the site.
Shallow foundations are ideal for low- to medium-rise buildings on stable soil. They sit near the surface—like isolated or raft footings—keeping construction faster and more budget-friendly.
When the upper soil isn't strong enough, deep foundations step in. Using piles or drilled shafts, they push the building's load way down to deep, solid rock layers. That’s why you see them on high-rise buildings, bridges, and difficult sites.
In short: shallow foundations rest close to the top, while deep foundations reach far below for stability.
