In Miami, the tropical sunlight is so intense that we primarily recognize it as a physical encumbrance, like the rain or the wind, making our invisible design drivers. Yet, we found little protection around the city, not from the urban nor from the architectural perspective. If you look around the city’s streets, you can note they are hundreds of glazing surfaces exacerbating even more the heat already part of our local climate. Observe, the outdoor parking areas, the street-cafes, the sidewalks, or the play-yards in parks and schools… Indeed, under such a heavy heat and sunlight, it comes natural to us to create an urban oasis and seek and generate shadows. 🍃
