ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A TREE SPECIES ALTERNATIVE?

Have you lost trees to recent storm damage? Are you looking for an alternative species? What do we mean?

For example, you may have a lot of Palo Verde, Mesquite, or Acacia throughout your project. You've lost a number of trees due to disease or storm damage, etc. The Palo Verde trees can be messy, have shallow root systems leaving them vulnerable to storm damage, and are prone to disease. Instead of replacing like-for-like, with regards to species, you're looking for another drought tolerant tree. What are the options for southwest climates and low water tolerance?

We recommend the Tipuana Tipu tree. It is drought tolerant, offers an abundant canopy, and has beautiful yellow flowers during blooming season. The Tipu is a hardy species and perfect for the southwest climate, and water conservation.

IS YOUR LANDSCAPE DESIGN FUNCTIONAL?

It can be hard to tell if your landscape design is functional until the plants have matured or there's storm damage.

Typically, newly installed material is planted close together in formation near to walls and homes to avoid looking sparse but is not functional down the road.

Trees planted too close together struggle for irrigation and sunlight. Root intrusion is costly when trees are planted near structures. Hardscape materials may look great in theory yet may actually cause erosion based on the lay of the land.

The month of September is the start of scalping season. In preparation for planting winter rye, turf areas are cut low to the ground, and irrigation is reduced to promote dormancy.

Turf areas will not be lush or very attractive during the scalping process; this is normal.

Properly irrigating landscape and trees in the summer months can be challenging. Some plants require more water than others, especially trees. So when is the best time to irrigate?

The best time to run irrigation is during early morning hours, between 4:00 - 6:00 AM. Watering in the middle of the night, during summer, when it's humid outside can promote mold and fungus. Mold and fungus can pe*****te root systems and kill trees.
