Morning is the best time to read your trees, before heat stress masks the symptoms. Look for leaves that wilted overnight and haven't recovered by sunrise, patches of canopy that appear dull or off-color, fungal growth at the base of the trunk, and branches dying back from the tips rather than the interior. None of these are normal summer behavior, and with monsoon humidity building, conditions for disease spread are about to get significantly better, for the disease.

In extreme summer heat, the best thing you can do for your trees is minimize stress, not add to it. Grinding remaining stumps eliminates termite and borer breeding sites before monsoon moisture arrives. Adding fresh mulch (or topping up what's already there) restores the thermal barrier around roots. Neither service disturbs the tree itself; they protect what's already in the ground.
