When the cold weather moves in, so do the mice and rats.

This is the time of year when male paper wasps (and future queens) leave their nests and gather around previous nesting sites, the exteriors of homes, tall structures, or similar landmarks. Males often perch in these spots and release pheromones to attract receptive females (gynes, or future queens). Mating takes place there. After mating, the fertilized queens seek protected shelters -such as attics, wall voids, under bark, or other crevices to overwinter. In spring they emerge and start new nests, beginning the next colony cycle. The males (along with the old queen and workers) die with the onset of cold weather.

In this video, we flushed them out, exposed them to insecticides to kill them, and plugged the crack to prevent future establishment.

It’s that time of year when mice and rats seek warmth -and once inside, they can quickly cause serious problems.

These pests don’t just nest; they contaminate surfaces, chew through wiring and insulation, and leave behind droppings and urine that pose real health risks.

Rodents can lead to thousands of dollars in damage and spread bacteria and allergens throughout your home or business. Even after they’re gone, residual contamination often remains -something standard cleaning usually can’t fully eliminate.

We specialize in thorough cleaning, decontamination, and sanitation of rodent-affected areas. Our process removes droppings, urine, nesting materials, and odors while disinfecting surfaces to restore a safe, healthy environment. We also provide professional exclusion services to seal entry points and keep rodents out for good.

Don’t wait for the problem to start -or get worse. Call us at the first sign of rodent activity. (208)650-7378

Several workers from a local roofing company were stung by yellowjackets after disturbing a nest while replacing roof shingles.

Armis came to the rescue. We suited up, cut an opening in the roof to reach the nest, and extracted it so the crew could safely resume work.

Relentless yellowjacket stings while working high on a roof can be a dangerous combination. The panic from multiple stings can easily throw off someone’s footing on steep slopes.

Luckily, no one was seriously injured.

This evening, Armis Pest Management was proud to attend the recent Ada County Commissioners meeting. We listened as government officials from cities across the Treasure Valley, and representatives from different state departments, discussed the growing rat problem affecting our members from our communities. At Armis, we believe in showing up where it matters -staying informed and positioned to better serve the people and neighborhoods of the Treasure Valley. Together, we can keep our homes and businesses protected.

Below is a video of a roof rat caught in a backyard in the Eagle area, just today, before this evening’s meeting.

When the image of our work for trapping rats shows up in the local news.

Boise leaders are discussing possible solutions to the Treasure Valley’s growing rat problem. City officials say they are continuing conversations with neighbors about how to respond to the issue.

This is the time of year where over watering your lawn can increase pest activity around your home. Improper drainage can leave puddles, soggy spots, and stagnant water -the perfect nursery for mosquitoes, fungus gnats, midges, and other moisture-loving flying pests. These insects can multiply fast in even small amounts of standing water or constantly damp soil.
Why it matters:
• Mosquitoes bite but can also spread diseases
• Gnats swarm your face, food, and plants
• All of them become a nuisance and can make your backyard unusable and can invade your home in high numbers.

This video shows a perfect example of mosquito larvae or wrigglers in standing water due to improper drainage in a Nampa home’s backyard.

Bird mites are tiny but extremely problematic. Their bites could cause intense itching, red spots, skin irritation, and sleepless nights. In heavy infestations, they can trigger allergic reactions, widespread discomfort for staff, and even force temporary office closures.

Once starlings abandon a nest, thousands of mites can swarm indoors and spread rapidly through walls, ceilings, and workspaces.

We recently handled a tough case where starlings left behind a massive bird mite infestation in an office:
- Treated the nesting area
- Fully sealed the entry point to prevent future bird access
- Performed a professional heat treatment to completely eradicate the mites inside the office

Fast and effective results so the team could return safely and comfortably.

Bird mites don’t disappear on their own and can quickly turn into a major problem. If you notice itching, tiny crawling bugs, or birds nesting nearby, act immediately!
